Now TF2 has the offline trainer my eldest wants to give it a go but the vga in her laptop is a bit poo (Mirage S3 poo to be exact)

Rest of the machine is ok, i've pumped it upto 2gb & 1.6 c2d with vista basic32 (haven't reinstalled since swapping the cpu, so that the next thing on the list), but being a laptop i'm stuck with the Mirage s3 vga system (64mb dedicated, i've allocated another 256mb so it's got 320mb to play with, masses i know!)

TF2 will load and run, but the moment you actually connect to a server (training or otherwise) it dumps out with "HL2 has stopped responding", so i'm guessing the video aspect is too much.

I've got all the video options turned down to low, are there any cmd line options i can use to make the video "go easy" on the poxy chipset?

(Next plan is to fit a 40x40 fan on the vga to keep it from catching fire!)

cheers :)

"a bit poo" is a massive understatement. No matter what settings you use, TF2 is never going to be playable on that laptop.

Even with DX7, 640x480 and minimum graphics settings, TF2 won't be playable. The SIS Mirage 3+ struggles with Quake 3 - it's just not intended to be used for gaming, whatsoever.

Heh, dxlevel 70 crashes out saying there is no pixel shader support, dxlevel 80 gives an impressive 2-3 fps

My friend runs it on a radeon 3200 onboard with a dual 2.2 Ghz processor and 3GB of ram... He runs it Direct X 8, 640x480 and lowest graphics, and it still falls to below 10 fps when there's a lot happening. TF2 is just not that low spec
