Was just wondering whether there are any web designers on the forum?

Was searching for a new job in November and stumbled across an advert for fully qualified Web Designers/ Non experienced people seeking qualifications. I applied and they have signed me up to the course. I started it at the end of November and have a year to do the course.

I think it's like an open University course... I log onto an online server, have modules sent to me, complete these, then they mark it and if everything is OK they send the next couple of modules to me. Doing CIW foundation's at the minute. I have to pay £80 a month to do the course, but it's £960 for the year, but the whole cost is £4500, however the company pick up the other costs :). After completing the courses online, I go and do live projects at universities with other people.

Then at the end, they write me a CV and distribute it across their network and find people interested in employing me.

Was just wondering what other people doing the job thought of their role? And how did they get into the role? :)

when i worked as a web designer another guy at my place did these courses. HIs overall opnion was that it was a waste of time and cost far too much. (he paid over 3k)

He actually endeed up learning most of the stuff at home independent study

Sounds like a very expensive qualification. :(

I just started building websites for fun at 16 - realised I was good at it.
Was helping a guy make a test to hire programmers - I passed their test, so could have been a trainee programmer at 16.
Wasted some time doing A-Levels.
Got a degree.
Now I'm a Senior Developer.
