Any Windows laptops close to a MacBook Air?

Looking for a laptop for my wife for work. What she wants is something approaching a MackBook Air 11" or 13": Slim, lightweight and all day battery life.
It'll be used in a school environment so will have to be able to access Network shared folders and all their Google Docs and Apps.

Her current Samsung NC10 is proving to be too small (screen Res and keyboard) and slow now even though its got 3Gb RAM and Win 7 HP on it.

Any recommendations for a Windows machine that would fit the criteria but save some cash on the Apple prices?

Thanks.

I've just got the Sony VAIO Pro 13" for work, very light and using a Haswell mobile CPU. It only comes with SSD, no LAN (just wireless), 2 USB3 ports and a very nice full HD screen.

Samsung series 9?

About the closest you are going to get, although possibly the Asus UX3* although I don't think that's been updated yet. Either way they'll be about the same price (maybe £100 less) but haven't got anywhere near the battery life. I think the Series 9 (called something different now...) Has about 8 hours and the Asus probably a lot less, say 5. For reference the Air has a 12 hour battery life..

Thanks for the suggestions. The glaring issue I've got is that any Windows machine will devalue so much more than a MBA and I'm thinking of spending as little as possible. I might wait out the Apple event next week and see what's on offer.

There is a new Samsung Ativ 9 Plus due out very shortly. It has a couple of specs i think plus an ultra high res screen.
Not sure though if it is actually cheaper than the Air.

Alternatively how about the Air and then bootcamp Windows on it?
If she works for a school shouldn't she qualify for the Apple Educational Discounts?
