hi chaps I have a e6600 at 3.2ghz on a asus p5n-e sli board, is there anything out there which is a good compatible step up from this yet?

I used to be so with new cpu's but i have neglected the cause the past year or so. :(

Not really no wait for nehalem and the new socket if it starts to hold you back push further than 3.2ghz.

I dunno, an E8600 clocked over 4GHz and cash back on the E6600 while it's worth something could also be a good option! :)

Core i7 is gonna be pricey at launch surely? also a few teething problems maybe?

If its not broke dont fix it. Basically if its running everything fine leave it.

Im guessing when nehalem comes out, my e8400 will still have plenty of power left in it, on the gamming front..

I don't agree but then we all have out own ways to approach things!

Debatable topic really, I mean firstly you need to define "Worthwhile" I mean what does that actually mean?

Ultimately none of us need to upgrade as much as we do, but that doesn't stop half the forum selling a perfectly good CPU for a loss and buying a newer more expensive CPU that basically does the same thing as the one they just sold?

Some folks upgrade every two or three years, others every two or three months.

I been using my trusty E6300 (£111 inc dec 2006) for ages and have been itching to upgrade, now that the second revision Wolfdales are being sold I can think of some worthwhile reasons to upgrade from a dual-core to a dual-core! :o

I personally enjoy upgrading (yes I do it too much but . . .well not CPU's but mostly GPUs and mobos) and if I can do it and sell my older kit then it's worthwhile! :)
