I played from EU launch till Cata. Not going to throw any more of my time away playing though. Whoever linked the Vurtne video, I'm pretty sure I killed him in 3 or 4. He gets me in every video though

a lot of people do get all misty eyed and look upon vanilla and tbc with rose tinted specs but a lot of that is with good reason. A quick jot down on what I liked about vanilla and tbc:
*World pvp was alive and kicking and due to this the world felt alive and vibrant.
*The lore was so much better during this period too.
*Questing wasn't so 'on rails' as it is now, you actually had a choice of what quests you wanted to do in each zone if you wished, and because of this there were some truely epic quest chains.
*Class quests!
*The classes actually all felt very different, homoganisation hadn't become the norm.
*Talent trees / points every level, I know some didn't like this but for me (and many like me), the freedom that the old system offered was a cut above the locked in abomination thats on offer now and coming in Mists.
Essentially you had choices, or an illusion of choice, that is no longer true. Choice is king in MMO's and for me it's no surprise that as Blizzard have whittled away those choices the player base have voted and left their game.
I do miss the clashes between tarren mill and southshore, used to have so much fun with those battles.
Played from beta until about eighteen months ago, tried it a couple of times but just cant be bothered any more. Having said that, I'd jump at the chance to play on a vanilla pre expansion server. I know rose tinted specs probably account for a lot of the nostalgia but I'd love the opportunity to properly experience all that again.
As someone who wasn't a vanilla player (I came in with lich, left before cata and recently re-sub'd), i have to ask... was vanilla with all honesty as great as everyone claims it to be?
I'm always getting told how awesome this game used to be, usually without any info to back that up...

It didn't have LFG specifically as it is today, it did have meeting stone summons and LFG improvements though which was the beginning of the end for traditional community driven group finding.
