Also if it does require a password any 1 know if aol have a support number that ain't in sodding India ?
Cheers

Last few i did were

(phonenumber)@dialbb.com

and password was abc123 or 123abc

There is a call centre in ireland who are very helpfull but didnt keep the number sorry :(

Hi thanks for your reply.
so its their home phone number @dialbb.com????
and u say the passwords they use are the same for many other customers u have done for?

cheers

ok well they rang india and was given a username of their [email protected] and a weird pass like vq16lqt1

which didnt work! so rang india back and spoke to another indian who was hard to understand! he gave us a compleetly different password and the username was [email protected]!
He also went through the router setup, and it still would say authorization failed in the router status window!
he then said it must be the router at fault but i find that hard to believe as it was working fine before the thing was reset by the pin button at the back!
and told us to go to our local market place and buy a new router!
lol whatever! i know adsl is crap but come on!

Im guessing its break down in comms which is why we cant set the thing up, and as a result they want to find another isp, probably sky as they already have a sky subscription and we think maybe entitle to free BB.
if any 1 knows of a good guide on setting up the router to work with aol i will give it a try, hes saying the dsl light is off which means problem with the router?
The power light is green, the tick is not illuminated, the next one (looks like a chain link) is also not illuminated, the (i) internet symbol is green, wifi is green and then the (1) ethernet port is green.
any 1 go any idas lol? doing my nut in!

This may be useful from the AOL site:

Connection protocol: PPPoE
VPI: 0
VCI: 38
Note: If you are asked for both figures together (VPI/VCI), enter them separated by a comma: 0,38
Username: This is your phone number followed by @dialbb.com. For example, [email protected].
Password: This is your AOL password.
Note: If you subscribe to line rental with AOL Broadband, you can find your password in your welcome letter.
Authentication: CHAP

Depending on your make of router, the following settings must be set to automatic, get automatically from ISP, 0.0.0.0 or left blank. Please check your manual for details:

IP address
Subnet Mask
Default Gateway
Domain Name Server (DNS) Address

MTU setting: 1450
MRU setting: MRU (Maximum Routing Unit) is required by some modem routers and should be set to the same value as the MTU of 1450.
MSS setting: MSS (Maximum Segment Size) is required by some modem routers and dynamically adjusts the packet size to fit the MTU. It should be set to 1360.

Edit - other sites also recommend trying Username: your [email protected] Password: your password
but from the last AOL install i helped with it was in the format [email protected] and password was abc123

Thanks for your help, but the router was setup like that. I think i can safely say AOL suck ass and so does their india support line!
They dont even get sent an invoice each month and wernt told about a new password lol! absolutely shocking service.
