Anybody else fedup with Steam

Same as, Steam is going down a lot lately for me too. Very annoying. Makes you wonder what would happen if (when) Steam has major problems and you basically can't play the games you paid for. I know form experience that when there are problems sometimes it doesn't even let you play in offline mode. Scary.

Yes, I have friends all over the world and it disconnects them at the same time as me so it is not an ISP/UK thing, then of course because of it we have some idiot come onto Teamspeak asking "HAI GAIS, IS STEAM DOWN?".

A good place to see any issues is http://steamstat.us/

I myself don't have connection issues within steam, except when logging in.

It usually takes a few attempts every time I log in, it seems to lie and tell me the server is offline.

But after attempt 2 or 3 it usually gives in to me and lets me through.

Still I can't deny that, between this and the fact that in game servers freeze periodically, to be totally honest I am not sure if they are all managed by steam, especially in regards to CS:S.

makes wanting to play on steam less appealing for me.

On the one hand its disappointing and makes me angry with Steam - but then we have to remember its a free service, I'm trying to play a free game, DOTA2, on a platform which very few other developers are/were willing to support (Linux), so I have to reign the anger in.

We also don't know what the cause is - and the lack of even an acknowledgement from Valve suggests to me it might be a malicious event, rather than just an overloading issue.

We know that Steam was attacked a couple of months ago. Valve acknowledged it then.

Since then it's frequently gone offline for short periods of time. I think they're still being attacked but just not going public with it.

Really there is that much downtime with Steam?

wow, I am pretty regular gamer and I can't remember the last time steam was offline for me. Does it go down after midnight mainly? Or during the day?

I use it every night and have not experienced any downtime in weeks, even months..

Is their maybe a common denominator here? for those who loose connection what ISP are you using?

are all of you running normal steam or are you signed up to the beta?

It has been down multiple times in the last week or 2, maybe 6 times. It is not limited to 1 ISP. There have been multiple topics on here about Steam being down and on the Steam sub-reddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/steam)

I have said this for other servers such as games servers, especially when LoL was going through it frequent downtime issues.

an update on the cause or even progress on whats being done to fix it would be nice. Even if it is just as vague as.

cause: some idiot spilled cocacola on the server

Well it's down again...

As others have echoed it's not necessarily the fact that its down that's most annoying, more the fact that there hasn't been any formal communication about why.

I was halfway through downloading Thief when it disconnected, so I had to start all over and 24GB on an 8Mb connection takes ages.

What the **** is happening to Steam latley.

The thing that really ****es me off is how quiet Valve have been about this. A courtesy heads up about what's happening would have been nice.

The thing is, if you feel something is wrong and your customers tell you something should be fixed, the right response is to fix it – not to tell them, “Yeah, at some point in time we’ll fix it.” Because that’s expectation. And if you’re ultimately not able to fix it, then that only makes people even more angry.

err.. what?!?

I've had loads of problems with steam, as a regular workshop contributor it's very problematic to keep a series of mods updated.

The interface is buggy, games have startup problems, the servers keep going down, the store is flooded with cheap 3rd rate indie games...

A little annoying tbh.
