Anybody else having SKY POP3 problems with Outlook?

Trying to connect my mate to Outlook via POP3 with no joy.

First of all logging into SKY Mail with the following works (obviously changed):
Username: john_smith
Password: studmonkey

When logged into SKY Mail I made sure his POP is setup correctly in the SETTINGS.

So onto Outlook:

Email: [email protected]
Username: john_smith
Pop: pop.tools.sky.com
SMTP: smtp.tools.sky.com
Password: studmonkey

Test Settings = FAIL

Go to MORE SETTINGS and click on SSL which changes the ports = FAIL

Go into Outgoing Mail (!) and change the settings to same password as incoming = FAIL.

Installs Thunderbird and when testing it says that Username or Password are wrong!!! but we know they are right.

Any ideas?
 
Did you do the unlock thing as posted above?

This is a common issue when too many failed pop/imap authentication attempts are made. You shouldn't need to call sky, however you may need the very first password used on the email account if the unlocker doesn't work first time.

It wasn't working earlier.

This has put my Google Mail account details in but it is for a mate.
Does this mean he needs to get a Google Account?
A bit more explanation would be grateful.
 
I've been putting his SKY username & password in about 20 times but nothing happens!!!
I did try his web account and they both work on there.

This could be the problem.
He forgot his very first password and SKY had to reset it and that does work because I can get on his SKY Mail.

It must work like my Web based NHS account.
I haven't been on for ages but the password I have now won't be the one that it will want and I have no chance of getting on until I remember it.
Good job I just put 1, 2, 3 for each month.
 
Try with the unlocker with the full email address ([email protected]) and then the current password, if this fails then you will need the original password. If you still can't get anywhere then only Sky Support can fix it.
