hi

just wondering if anybody is condering going with an matx conroe set up and what mboard they are going to use?

i know its early days yet but at the moment i cant see many matx options on the market

Yup i will be , just waiting on a decent mobo to come out.

I know asus, gigabyte and biostar have some conroe matx boards due soon

I will be SFF Conroe in some version , might be shuttle or mATX board and alternative case, don't know yet.
But its not a bad thing there is a serious lack of boards ATM if you ask me.
Blessing in disguise for 2 reasons I can see:

1) Looks whats happening with the the current CPU roll - out, slow and not as cheap as they will be.
2) Current Full size boards are not refined, mATX featured boards can be argued more refined as they have less room to fit everything, so the delay might be a good chance for them to get niggles ironed out.

I doubt there will be a 975X based MATX board, there was not even a 955X based MATX board, Intel developed the 945 chipset for MATX just like they developed the 946 Chipset for MATX Conroe...

Hoping to go with a Sugo and a Conroe for my next build, planned in the next 4-6 weeks.

It's not looking good on the board front though, i'm picky about what chipset i'll take - and there's not a lot of choice there.

I'd love to see some mATX Intel P965 boards - I heard this chipset has some kind of updated memory controller which makes it superior to the 975X (not sure why it's cheaper then  )

I guess time will tell with this one :)

Intel 965 matx mobo

Just found this 965 matx, dunno how good it'd be not to clued up on intel boards tbh, but specs dont look to bad

There are a number of Intel 965 chipset based mATX and mBTX boards (not sure what the screw layout of these would be) on the website there.

Any chance of getting any in stock Gibbo?

what are the chances of a mATX conroe/crossfire jobby?? thats what im lookin for as an upgrade.

the new SD37P2 supports both these but what good is crossfire if you can only use cards with single slot coolers?? (no X1900's except the X1900gt??)

That'll involve waiting even longer... :(

If I need to wait so long, I might as well wait for AM2/AM3 to bring out a "conroe beater". I can't be bothered waiting...

What about coolers for mATX Conroe systems?

I'm guessing you can't just use a normal cooler as you'd need something lower profile to fit in something like a Sugo.

What's the best cooler in this case?

True, but its always a trade off.

mATX boards are not going to be priority anyway (manufacturers point of view).
Its looking likely that the mid range retail conroe's are going to be very short supply anyway, so worth the wait for me.

Otherwise your goign to have to take a gamble with the mobo.

Might be a possibility (CF that is), IIRC eVGA build a s939 mATX board.

eVGA built an SLI mATX board, unfortunetly it was far from stable in most cases. The net is littered with various threads on forums about the problems it had.

Tbh a mATX Crossfire or SLI board is probably not going to happen for a while, hopefully someone will release a board though as it would be the best machine for say a lan rig.

Most normal coolers will fit, although since the Conroe runs relatively cool I dont think an overly large cooler will be of importance (unless your overclocking it but in this case a full tower would be a better solution).

^Most coolers wont fit the sugo because the cpu is directly under the psu.
SG01-Evolution compatibility notes:
- CPU cooler cannot exceed 78mm in height.

Im looking at a CNPS8000 or Thermaltake Blue Orb II for mine at the min :)
