Hey guys,

So soon i will be selling my AMD chip motherboard and am looking for a replacment.

Skylake looks to be a igpu improvment more than anyting so i dont think waitimg for it is worth doing.
I have £350 to get a intel chip and high end z97 board.

I use my PC for gaming and browsing nothing more, im using a gtx 97p g1 gaming at the moment and looking to add another one of those as well.

I also have 2x4gb corsair xms3 1600mhz ram and a h80i currently in my system that will be reused

ive found a i5 4670k and asus z97 pro gamer board + free headset for £270... good buy?

What do you guys think? Thanks

Would the i7 last longer than the i5? An extra 100 seems quite a lot to me for hyperthreading clocked a little higher...

i dont know, i belive people with intep CPU's are getting better framerates in ARK, SLI or CF is not working in the game yet so i thought moving to intel would be worth a shot, i can move to a i5-4790k and asus z97 pro gamer board for £270, and that gives me £60 in my back pocket as im selling my amd chip board and a ssd for £330

I went from an fx8350@5ghz to an i7 [email protected], the only thing that changed was my firestrike score...

unless any particular game/application is causing you issues why change?

It is true, only some scenarios will you see a good improvement. Things like browsing and standard games there will not be a distinguishable improvement. I do agree with the earlier post though that if you plan on SLI/Crossfire cards in the future an i7 will be a nice progression to last a few years.

It will depend on the games you want to play and the resolution to make an i7 work enough for that outlay. AMD wont be coming out with anything by the looks of it so if you must outlay then just get the i7 and be done with it.

If your someone who likes to hang on and get the most out of their machine there is a possibility that DX12 will negate the CPU move and a beast of a GPU would be a better investment.

hmmm, SLI is on the cards so a i7 will be better here.

just have a feeling that a i7 or i5 cpu will improve my PC's gaming performance, and be smoother as well

It depends on the games that your playing, bf3/4 and Crysis 3 are ones I've found to run better with an i7 and sli. Not sure about more recent titles.

I play bf4, not as much as i used to but im happy with the performance in that game, total war games struggle

Im going to go for it and change to the i5 then add another 970 later

ok, so ive played some bf4 and some ARK, huge increase in performance in ARK and bf4 stayed the same really.

what i also noticed was the general speed of the PC, its a lot more responsive and my SSD seems to be running faster as well, i dont regret the move at all and im really happy with it.

btw this is with the CPU at stock speeds, have not played with overclocking yet :)
