Just curious, do we have any users here who refuse to use steam for any reason?

Please try and refrain from turning this into an argument over the pros and cons, all I want to know is if there are many people who refuse point blank to use Steam and will skip games if they are only available on or via the steam platform?

Would love to see a poll, perhaps a mod could add one please?

a) I use steam and am happy to use it.
b) I use steam but don't much like it.
c) I will not use steam and will skip games because of it.
d) I'm not interested in anything steam has to offer.

Reason I ask is that the upcoming IL2 Cliffs of Dover is to use the steam platform and has caused a huge amount of negative feedback from many people saying that they will not purchase now it's running through steam, I was under the obviously mistaken impression that the majority of users were happy to use steam and am quite shocked at the level of vitriol levelled against it

Anyway, I'd be gratefull to hear your responses, thanks :)

Ok in the beginning Steam was not so great... but now there is no reason why not to use steam, you dont have to use steam to purchase.... I for one think that Steam is helping PC gaming back on its feet...

Steams rubbish, it's trying to be a source for downloable games and easy storage, and don't get me started on the deals.

PS: Steam id: wescarstrider.

What is the problem with using it though? It works fine and is great for a publisher and users in terms of DRM and patching imo.

Happy user here, though I have never even hear of IL2, so maybe it's fans of that type of game that have an issue with Steam?

It may be release prices or some people don't like waiting to download a game and would would rather by a hard copy.

Steam stopped me playing HL2 for a few years - just wasnt interested in the platform, but the Steam sales have got me onboard so Im a happy Steam user and actively look for Steamworks games.

The only downside is that I try and attempt to be more choosy and do more research into my games because you cant sell them on - but really, thats not a bad thing at all...

I noticed FM11 forums had the same types of posts too regards to Steamworks, which I guess why it can be played with or without Steam being involved...

I haven't been watching this IL2 thing, but I imagine it's just a very vocal minority. On the whole Steam has mostly won over the community. Some are just not happy to see digital rights so tightly controlled I guess. They're not wrong to think like this I suppose, but Steam has done nothing but good for PC gaming over the last few years. This massive PC resurgence of late isn't an accident, it's services like Steam (well, mostly Steam) that is making PC development more and more attractive.

a) I use steam and am happy to use it.

I've been using steam since 2004... whats the big issue? It allows digital distribution... don't like the platform, community or friends? Simply use gamers gate.

I use both!

I hated it back in the days i was stuck with dialup, and then after that i had a poor broadband which always disconnected. Now with a stable connection i love it but if anything ever happened to my internet i'd likely just jump out my window.
