I'm wondering if anyone can help me out.

Unfortunatly I think my old GIGABYTE GA-Z68AP-D3 motherboard has died. I was using my pc and I plugged a usb powered torch into a usb socket. Up popped a warning on the screen saying usb power surge (or something to that effect as it only stayed on for 1 second) the pc then died instantly. I tried turning it on and it got as far as the boot screen and died again. Now it wont turn on or do anything at all. I intitally thought it was the psu that had died and bought a new corsair hx750i, but alas that did nothing. However the fan test indicator on the psu works when I unplug the motherboard and then wont when I plug it back in hence why I think the motherboard is now toast.

The long and short of it is does anyone know where I can find a z68 motherboard or motherboard that will run my i5 2500k cpu. I just cant bring myself to replace the whole system due to that dying. I've see a few on ebay but they are 3x the price they were brand new which is ridiculous. Just hoping I've overlooked a site where I can get a reasonable priced one.

Thanks for all your help.

z68 motherboards are getting a little thin on the ground these days but z77 boards seem plentiful on the bay etc

I didn't realise I could use a z77 for my i5 2500K so that's great, means I don't have to buy an entire new system which is great!

Thanks for the advice.

Be prepared to have your wallet raped though. Decent boards are going for a small fortune on the bay and in some cases considerably more than they were when new.

Yeah thats what I'm finding at least the z77 boards are cheaper than the z68. They need their head checking thinking its worth that much!

What I find nuts is when the motherboard dies it's cheaper to just buy a new CPU/Mobo normally than to get the 2nd hand board, like some charge £80 for a basic Z77 board, at that price you can sell the chip and just buy the most recent stuff which will be just as expensive and faster.

I am in the same situation with my X58 board, they are going for silly prices so in the long run i would be better off getting a new mobo\cpu.

i am having random BSOD, lock ups etc and no matter what i do nothing has fixed it so guessing the board is on its way out
