Anybody know why thermal glue not setting?

Hi all,

I'm using the G1/G2 two part adhesive for my arctic accelero heatsink bits, but it's been on know for about 15 hours and still hasn't set. The curing time is supposed to be 5 hours. Does anybody know what might be wrong?

Mine didn't set properly either. Got in touch with Arctic who kindly sent me some alternative stuff in a plain white tube with no instuctions.

Ended up just going the whole hog and used arctic proxy instead - but that is a more permenant fix. .

It could be you didn't mix it thoroughly enough or in the wrong ratios

Do it in a hot room, use a hair drier to speed up the process, leave the card by a heater. The sinks will always move a little bit, just be careful not to knock them.

You can do but id try and get them as set as possible first.

What a balls ache - the thing still isn't setting. I was supposed to post this to somebody yesterday! I thought for sure it would at least be set over night D:

I agree with tom_e. Wrong ratios or not mixed thoroughly would be my first suspect. Next would be drying environment followed by duff batch of product.

Phobya's thermal glue worked well for me when I as modding a DG834N router. Conducted heat good enough for the router (I couldn't comment for a GPU without testing with a temp probe) and was easy enough to pry off without breaking anything at a later date.

Is it worth getting Akasa thermal adhesive tape? Or does that not stick very well?

it supposed to move slightly,i thought mine wasn't set as it moved around too much but its been fine,aslong as you don't mess with it

The tape does a decent job actually. Its probably the best way as it doesn't make a mess of the pcb so if you need to send it back for rma its less hassle.

Well, the sample of 'glue' I have left over has gone the consistency of thick chewing gum now. The card has gone in the post though. Hope it's still stuck to it when it gets there.

I could hang my 6950 off one of the RAM sinks + AC thermal glue. Left it 24 hours on the desk

No idea. Fitted the sinks + cooler then went out drinking. Was in no state to look at it until 24 hours had elapsed
