Anybody using a gtx 480 with dual monitors

Using a second monitor really loads up the card and adds to the thermal problems the card has.

Get ready for a lot of heat and noise.

There will be no problem with it. the people saying you will get high temp issues are speaking a load of rubbish. The card is designed to handle up to two monitors. if it was not there would only be one connection on the card for a monitor.

Not really a problem. No difference at load whether you connect or disconnect the second display. At idle, though, the card doesn't clock down to power-saving levels when in 2D mode if you have a second monitor connected.

This means for me the card idles at 70C and 40% fan with my custom fan profile. It's not an issue really, as 70C is nothing for this card. However, I do still like to disable my second monitor when I'm not using it to lessen the power and heat flowing through my system.

Indeed, it's what I get at 41% fan speed with two monitors connected. Of course, if I were to set a more aggressive fan profile, I could bring that down, but I can hear the fan at more than 41%.

As I say, though, it doesn't seem to make any difference to load temperatures (though I only game on the one screen).

Same story with pretty much any GPU you get ATI/AMD or nVidia - dual monitors requires a higher amount of processing power which results in higher clocks being run instead of idle.

In terms of the multi monitor experience tho nVidia tends to be a little more robust/less likely to run into issues.

A high ideal GPU temp will seriously reduce the life of your graphics card. I think a cheap second card might be the way to go.

70c ideal is way to hot.
