Anyone a fan of Paradox interactive games?

Was glad to see this thread resurrected! I am really looking forward to this game. I was annoyed not to get an invite to their beta, I am guessing you need to post regularly on their forums to stand a chance.

I've got in on the odd beta just by asking. :) Only have probably a dozen or so posts on the forum to my name.

As for this, I'm not sure I'll like it due to the emphasis on families rather than nations. I bought Sengoku and wish I liked it more than I do; I found it a nightmare keeping track of all the characters and wondering what the hell made one marriage proposal more feasible than another, etc.

I'm happier just being a country and smashing other countries to bits. :)

I really like the dynasty pov as it makes you plan into the future. I found this out the hard way after 4 of my vassals revolted as soon as my heir took his throne because they really didn't like him. Also had to assassinate the previous heir because he only had daughters and I stupidly married them all off before I knew what a matrilineal marriage was

My boxed copy arrived though the door from amazon today. Started with the d'hauteville's in southern Italy, as per how I would usually play in do 1 - it is a great spot for crusading. I spent a few years saving money, arranging marriages and the like, and was just about to begin the conquest of Sicily, when my two yr old work up! Eagerly anticipating beginning my crusade in earnest this evening.

I've not played Sengoku but from what I gather they are quite similar. CK2 has a much bigger map to play on though as it is the whole of Europe and the middle east. And instead of building up honour you need to build up your relationship to the pope with piety points.

you have to build up prestige as well, which I think equates to honor.

I have sengoku, and I think Ck 2 is a superior game for several reasons. Firstly, it is more accessible because of its Europe/ middle east setting. The history of medieval Europe is much more familiar to me, and therefore more interesting and enjoyable to immerse myself in. Secondly there is a lot more variety. Sensory is set only on Japan, so culturally everyone is fairly homogeneous. The fact that clans can end up following Shinto, Buddhism For Christianity doesnt really ,blunt this. Because Ck2 covers a much larger geographic area it has a lot more variety, which adds a lot more color to the game. I think the interface probably has some improvements, but I couldn't specifically say what.

Ta for the comparison. I may try another game of two of Sengoku as training, then, before I get CK2 (which I will get at some point regardless of whether I play it, as I do with all Paradox games).

If you've downloaded the demo and wanted to try playing as a different faction from the 4 which are available to you in the demo - if you select one of the 4, click "play" and then quickly click on the region you actually want to play - the demo allows you to select and play that region.

You're still limited to 20 years and you can't save - but it's nice to try a couple of different regions :)
