anyone after a topclass soldering iron?

If anyone is after a top class soldering iron, like i have been for the last week. I highly recommend an xytronics product.
i ordered this last night, and it turned up on my door this morning, plugged it and i was astonished. used to have a 40w weller that took 5 mins to heat up, this takes 3 seconds to reach 300 and tells me real time heat temperature!.
just thought id save other people the stress of finding a good iron.

Hi,

You haven't really done an exhaustive test, you only turned it on and noticed that it heats up quickly...

I wonder how long it will last compared to the wellers?

Can you get a different types of tips for it? are they compatable with normal tips?

My Weller is over 20 years old, I wonder if this one would last as long, but it won't be me who finds out

i just used it for half an hour, worked well. when soldering onto a perfboard the copper pads soaked up heat like nobodies buisness but just cranked it up to 370 and worked like a dream, turned it off when not using it and flicked it back on, within 5 seconds it was up to full temp.
great so far and has improved my soldering 10 fold
also tips are of abundance on ebay
search xytronics on ebay and all you will see is official tips

That's a lot of £££'s for a soldering iron, I just have around 3 or 4 cheapie ones that work ok, including a 100W beast!

I have a nice portable 70w equivalent gas iron with a nice fat tip for when i do R/C stuff. It's portable which is handy for me because most of my soldering is done with i'm racing my R/C car- ie motors, batteries and stuff.
