Anyone any experience of using long (5m) DP to hdmi cables

I need it to support 4k / 60 and HDR.

Many sites claim 4k / 30 but if all it is is rearranging the pins to hdmi it should not be an issue should it? (I have never had a problem with long hmdi cables and never bought into the silly priced ones)

Thanks

Not with DP to HDMI specifically, but i have a few 20m HDMI cables running, and a 10m DP cable.

No problems really to report - just buy a 'decent' one with shielding, nothing extreme. I.e. make sure it says its rated for what you need, i.e. HDMI 2.0 and you should be fine.

The one interesting thing I've found is that on the 20m HDMI at 4k + sound then it can be intermittent; i.e. intermittently cuts out. Not so much with XBox or Virgin box, but from the PC or laptop gfx it does. It seems (from what I can gather) that graphics cards just don't put quite as much juice down the line as other devices. No real way to bench this, except to try it.

Aside from the above, i run 3840x1600@75hz + sound on the DP and its rock solid. 4kp60/4kp20 on the 20m HDMI and it is perfect unless from a laptop/PC (in which case its fine until sound is added).

If it helps, these are the cables I'm using:

For PC use 5m at 4K/60Hz is going to be really hit and miss - you will need a good cable and a bit of luck. For other devices they often run slightly lower bandwidth such as 4:2:2 colour and a bit easier to get longer distances stable.

Cool thanks. May have to think of a plan b.

I wonder if the oculus rift lower resolution (but higher frame rate) will have more headroom

Bought a 5m DVI to hdmi cable instead. Seems much easier than expensive 5m display port to hdmi cables. Hopefully will arrive tomorrow. My existing cable is not dual DVI so the screen is very yellow presumably because it is not carrying all the data.

Btw my passive dp to hdmi adapter didn't work with the rift either... At least not with a 2 m extension cable (so 5m in total)
