We are a bit fed up with Eclipse's rather poor speeds and are thinking of moving to Nildram. Has anyone got Nildram and could comment on the speeds?

Funny you should post this now.. I've just literally got off the phone to Nildram after a 3 week long epidemic to get something as simple as getting my static IP back (that I did not give permission to have removed in the first place.)

Originally I called to re-grade - I was still on the 'old fashioned' adsl package because I refused to pay for the 'compulsory' upgrade everyone went through - this happened with relatively no problems, just the usual blatant lies about dates. I was informed the only (and I stressed the only when asking) difference I will experience is the price and the line speed will occasionally be higher.

Then a day after it is changed we get line drops every 5 mins and speeds you can measure in triple number BITS during peak hours.

Phoned Nildram - usual line test piffle "All is ok here, we'll have to get BT to send an Engineer" blah blah. A week later, one day before the engineer is due to arrive, the line behaves itself. Phoned to cancel engineer because they charge if no fault found. Tin foil hats at the ready.

Then I discover they removed my static IP. This really ticked me off - I have several VPN and SSH services registered for that number (that do not allow connection from other numbers) so it not only gives me headache to get it sorted, it causes a loss of earnings because I use those services for work.

Phoned them up "Sorry, we cannot use that number it has already been reassigned." After informing them of how to do their job, the agree to reassign the IP but for some reason "We will have to ask the person who carried out your regrade to perform the assignment."

Cue 3 weeks of arguments, demands and broken promises to call back and then blaming me for not notifying Nildram within 2 weeks of the re-grade.. even though I informed them well within it.

Disgusting service.

Am on nildram max adsl can only get 3 meg but i have no problems 24/7 3 meg speeds, i guess most of speed problems people have is down too exchange congestion.

been with nildram nearly 4 years never had any majors problems, since max though the customer support helpdesk has got dire

No problems really - none until about the last week or 2. Bad DNS problems have been noticed in the last few days but they did report some problem about this to us and I found out today through their exchange checker that, for the first time in 3 years, my exchange has gone red and planned works are to be carried out on the 12th Oct. Maybe it's more the exchange problem than them. Never had any real problems other than this, so I'm not complaining - had them for 5 months now.

I am will nildram/pipex and i just noticed my 1mb line has dropped to 512k speed. This could be a temp thing, but i think its being going on for ages as i noticed my download speeds where slower. If they have down graded my account they have done so without my permission.

These line drops are really only testing your link back to the exchange to see what kind of speed you can get. They should have stopped after a while, but bad luck with the IP issue.

The line drops continued for 3 days before I reported them, as I too gave the benefit of the doubt that they would be temporary, but after 10days they finally stopped (and the speed returned to normal)

Been with Nildram for 5 years now and this is my first issue with them, but it's a big one as far as I'm concerned. Telling me I should have reported the IP loss within a 2 week period of the re-grade had me utterly fuming. I did _not_ give permission to have it taken off and the line was unusable for 10days so I couldn't even 'test' it and then I was messed about for 3 weeks, that's the reason the fault wasn't in the 'system' before the 2 week period, NOT because I didn't report it.

Speeds for me on Nildram are not so great.

Rarely I can get 600-700kb/s
Most of the time I get ~300kb/s
Often I find my downloads running at <100kb/s, sometimes <50kb/s

I am not sure if it is down to exchange congestion, or Nildram being overloaded. Either way it's MAX and seems like a lot of people have the same problem, so I don't really expect it to get fixed :(

I've been a Nildram customer for 18 months now and I'm as happy as a pig in **** with them :)
They were great from the very beginning - getting me installed exactly when they said they would etc.
I regraded to MAX with them on the day that MAX regrades were first taken and the actual upgrade went through ten days later.

I'm currently sat on a connection that has connected at 8mb since the day my regrade went through.
At peak times I get a fast and reliable connection, never dropping to the depths I hear some people complain about.
Leave things until around 9:00pm through to sometimes early hours of the morning (depends how late I'm planning on staying up) and my connection really comes into it's own.
Last night I was downloading from some sites at 750kb/sec and it was great.
I know MAX reliability and speed varies a lot depending on line length etc - but I couldn't be happier.

I've had the need to contact Nildram support twice in those 18 months and on both occasions I find telephone support is 100x better than their e-mail support.

I've been with nildram for about 5 years and Ruffneck has hit the nail on the head with this comment.

Same, im actually looking to move to another ISP.

I think my net used to be faster when I was on 2mb!

Been with Nildram for about 5+ years now never had a problem with them what so ever get 600+kbps with fileplanet.

The only thing i must say is i've been getting random discconects after 11pm for a few nights but that is about it. probs exchange congestion

Been with nildram for about 3-4 years now, and never had any major problem until last month when I moved address. My internet should have been activated last friday but it got activated today (a week late). Now that its finally connected I doubt i'll have any problems, fingers crossed. Before I changed address though it was flawless for years, never had any real problems I can think off.

well nildram messed my lines completey with their incompetence repairing the wrong line and generally ******* things up customer service is useless now and uninterested generally and you get told one thing and then another 2 days later when you ring to query why promises havent been met. i had a business line and a home line with them. after 4 months trying to put my home line right that they messed up because of poor management i finally relented and migrated to bt business (figuring if im gonna have poor dsl i may aswell save money) and now it almost chokes me to say my web browsing reliabilty and speed has improved dramatically.
to sum it up i guess since pipex being owners is becoming more apparent i have seen a steady decline in service and performance. i no longer recommend nildram to my customers

I've been with Nildram for 4 years. First two they were brilliant.
Then they cancelled my ADSL circuit, clerical error apparently...... Took 2 weeks to get reconnected. They managed to change my static IP. That was a little annoying but I found it quicker to update my zonefiles than it was to get a response from them. And they're customer service now sucks, they took 25 days to respond to the 1st tech support issue I sent them this year, and 7 days for the next. I wouldn't mind, but they are not the cheapest provider. So when I move house next month, I won't be using them anymore.
