Boss has asked me to become apple certified professional. About to buy a book on it - any tips?

Certified at what?

ACMT is fairly easy if you know what you're doing but if you're not really a Mac person I'd recommend a course. Easier. If you're already fixing and troubleshooting Macs a lot you could probably do it just with the exam. I did a fast track recertification course for my first one and it was plenty.

ACSP is way harder, there's just loads to take in but it's useful, I learnt quite a bit.

I've actually been looking into this recently. I dont actually own a mac but i used to troubleshoot and strip down quite a lot of imacs at my old job. Which books did people buy? Think i'd just read the book then take the exam.

the apple training series, is the official ones that they use on the courses but you can get them free if you pay for the course; those are the ones that I used.

I've only heard good things about peachpit books but never used them myself.

I think the books are over £100 or something absurd.

The books I've used are Peachpit Press ones which I think are the official ones. They're good, I suppose. They're the proper reading for the test so that's all you can say really, they directly prepare you for it.

I'm not super clued up on costs because mine have been paid for by work, but I can vouch for Amsys in terms of training if you're down south - they'll either provide you with the full course, with the aim of really teaching you, or fast track you through the exams if you know what you're doing and want to save money. They're friendly and they know what they're doing.

Sorry, PardonTheWait is correct the actual publishers are PeachPit and the book series is called Apple Pro Training, it was a very long day yesterday and I've never read the covers of the books just a lot if not all that's in them.

I did mine up in Manchester, I tend to find that Apple training course are a lot more smaller and not so often ran, sometimes even cancelled due to lack of numbers. There is a lot of stuff to cover in a short amount of time thou.

I'm going to see if work will get me the OS X10.8 books when they come out.
