Anyone assist with this photoshop help?

I want to know how to colour this in, without the colour I want to use, running on the white. i don't want to fill, the image is on a transparent background. When I select the colour and choose the brush, I want to brush away to my hearts content, but it will only actually make the shape colour change.

Does that make sense?

Use the magic wand tool to select the white/transparent areas and then go the menu and click "SELECT -> INVERSE". Then brush away.

Did you just colour mix it out? If so, could you try and get as close to #ff8c00 as possible?

You need to press CTRL+U, tick colourize, then swing the levers around to change the colour.

Or you can try to recreate the shape like this...
