anyone bank with santander?

i recall some people saying they weren't very good. is this still the general opinion?

was thinking of opening one of these accounts

I switched from Lloyd's TSB to Santander 3 months ago after numerous frustrating calls to Lloyds TSB's muppet service centre.

To date absolutely no problems whatsoever with Santander and the account transfer service was smooth as silk.

I have been trying to close a savings account with them for about the past millennium. The foreign call centres don't help.

Phone them up? Halifax dropped my ISA down to 0.1% without telling me. Ten minute phone call and I was sitting on 3% ^_^

Have had problems in the past, but they seem to have improved dramatically over the last few months. I think the Abbey/Santander/A&L merger caused big issues with them but now they are completed I think their service has improved a lot.

Just opened up an isa with them and their CS is the worst I have ever experienced, although I get a good rate on the isa (3.15%).

I've banked with them since childhood and only ever had one proper problem (they forgot to send me new card out when my old one expired). My local branch now is ****ing dire to queue up in though - may aswell take a tent.

I bank with them and have not had an issue with the banking side of things. I have the e-saver product you list and I also have a current account with them for the 5% AER on in-credit balances. Works nicely, no complaints.

The credit card side of things is completely inept, mind. I had a useless Santander card I didn't want with an £8k limit on it. I wanted to change it to a Santander Zero card instead. Woman in the branch suggested I signed up in branch, then cancelled the other card if I was succesful.

New Zero card came through with a pathetic £1k limit on it - no use for what I wanted it for. No worries I though, I'll just get them to swap the credit limits over.

Nope. Refused.

I offered many combinations - I even said look, why not cancel the other one and give me half its limit on the new card? That reduces your exposure if thats your concern.

Nothing they would do.

Cancelled the Zero card in a fit of rage. I'll try again at some point in the future I guess
