Anyone been sent the apple text message

Yep, I am sure Apple paid the BBC billions to report that their OS crashes when users receive a text message with a certain string of Arabic text.

But they didn't pay as much as FIFA so it is not headline news now. :(

Can't remember the last time I received a text that wasn't from either Domino's or Pizza Hut... Everyone I talk to seems to use Facebook Messenger instead. :p

A so called mate sent it to me yesterday, pretty pointless really as I have a Moto G which coincidently I bought off him, idiot. LOL.

Another Day another Apple/Facebook Story from the 'Impartial' and supposedly Advertisement-FREE BBC.

Erm, two things.

One: It's a fairly big tech/mobile news story that potentially affects a lot of people (IIRC if you have the texts set to display by default in the notification area of your phone, it crashes the whole phone).

Two: It's hardly an advert, showing a fairly big and potentially very annoying problem with the phone (if someone was minded to, it would be relatively simple to send a mass sms out that could affect tens/hundreds of thousands of users).

They also (shockingly) report other big tech stories, especially those that affect devices millions of people routinely use.

to me; it seems more likely code that a developer has put in during testing then forgot to remove it.

The arabic message was probably developed by the CIA to disable terrorist phones to stop them remotely detonating IEDs or warning other cells of an attack.

not very plausible

So you're in a patrol, you spot some disturbed concrete that wasn't there yesterday, you notice the locals have vanished, the kids that were playing round there most days have gone away and it is all much quieter...

you then use you crystal ball to obtain the the phone number of the expensive iphone the terrorists have strapped to the old artillery shells buried in the ground and send it the special CIA text message....

Sorry to disappoint you but it is cheap throw away phones that they'll be using to trigger the device and make the call... and given that these are going to be changed regularly - used once or blown up... you'll need some psychic powers to figure out the phone number.

There are ways to counter those IEDs but it's best not discussed on an internet forum.
