Anyone bothered with Windows 11 25H2?

I updated my daughter pc and Virus & threat protection disappeared from windows defender. So I went back to an older restore point and it was back again. Tried the update again and it happened again. Anyone else had this issue?

On my pc I’ve not done the update and working ok. Both pc have Windows 11 pro.

I was putting it off for several days because when Windows 11 did force itself my my Win 10 laptop it did bugger about with updating the bios against my will, which stopped Throttlestop working and knackered performance, such that I had to mess about downgrading the bios and disabling the bit in device manager which checks your bios. But I eventually let it do the 25H2 update and was surprised it left the bios as is. I can't see any changes whatsoever in general use though. Mainly waiting for the Start Menu update they seem to be holding back.

I've just received a notification to install a preview update: KB5067036. This update contains the new start menu according to the KB article: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb...-preview-ec3da7dc-63ba-4b1d-ac41-cf2494d2123a

I'm not desperate enough to try it. If anyone else takes a punt, please post some screenshots. :D

So far no new start menu or any changes that I can see to it even with that update on several PCs/devices, for some reason I'm only seeing about 20% of the listed changes/improvements with that update on my systems.

After an update last week, my photos all decided they were going to open with the default option rather than photo viewer.

Apart from that I haven't noticed any change since updating.

Since installing Windows 11 I do notice that every so often, if I have a folder open with a mixture of HTML files and PNG files in it, the folder appears to lock itself - so if I double click the files nothing happens and they don't open - if I tap the address bar and hit enter - the folder works and allows me to open the files again.

As far as I know the features in 25h2 have not been activated yet which is why we see no difference.
I'm really amazed at how you can have things on your own computer that Microsoft wants you to download, and then they say, 'Nah, you'll have to wait before we activate it.' It should be activated as soon as it's on your computer. This whole Windows 11 situation is just crazy to me. Seriously, we need that *God mode tier* to be active as soon as it's on my computer, or just don't bother downloading it at all.

I've been having major issues now with the update when it concerns gaming, so I rolled it back and everything is fine.

Hope there's a fix soon.

What issues are you having and with what games?

I am on 25H2 and not noticed any issues gaming

I'm wondering this too. I've had far fewer issues on 25H2 (so far) than I did on 24H2. Though as I understand it the functionality of 25H2 is being activated in stages (new start menu etc.)

The problems I had with my games are, that they refuse to load, crash shortly after starting and after playing for a bit; problems such as my system rebooting has
also been a problem (when not gaming).

I have spoken to a few friends and they have had no problems to date, so it would be nice to know what is causing this problem (hardware, older systems)?

For those who have problems or zero issues, could you include your systems spec here..

My pc:

Ryzen 3600, gpu Asus dual 1060 OC 6gb, 32gb ram, playing on 1080, SSD's 3tb.

My pc is fine for what I use it for and some of the games I play are War Thunder, Warhammer 3, Stellaris; these
games and many others run just fine (after rolling back).

I did do a clean install of 25H2 so it was not done via Windows update so unsure if that makes any difference.

AMD 9800X3D, Nvidia 2070S 8GB (soon to be a Zotac 5080) 32GB C30 6000mhz ram and a 1TB Samsung 970 Evo

It's nothing to do with "Smart App Control" is it?

Discussed here -

Games working fine here. I did do a Windows install rather than just the update for the simple reason the update wasn't working, it would go so far and just quit. The install, keeping all of my files worked fine.

System: Ryzen 9 9950X3D, 64g GB RAM, Nvidia 5070ti, 2TB and 4TB M2 drives plus 6 large rust spinners in a USB 3.2 DAS.
