Anyone bought a Garmin?

Just received mine today and it wasn't shrink wrapped. The device itself wasn't in a sleeve or any form of wrapping, just inside the box on it's own with the screen protector over it.

No shrink wrapping either. Just want to confirm this is how they are shipped out and sold or if I've been sold a refurb?

The site is very reputable... reluctant to say the name as it could be deemed a competitor. Think lots of rain and clammy conditions.

I'm pretty sure thats all they come with. Was everything neat and tidy?

As neat and tidy as could be. The removable tie wraps were in place and the cables folded up.

Pretty ridiculous if you ask me! I order a lot of stuff online and the majority of it these days looks refurbed. Very annoyed. There's no way to tell if it's new or not. No shrink wrap, no labels... nothing!

My Garmin 500 Bike GPS had a seal over the open box tab, cables wrapped and in bags and the unit itself had a dummy screen display protector on.

Thanks for that. I don't have the packaging to hand, but I don't recall a seal over the flap on mine, although all else was the same as yours. Dummy screen etc.

Mine never had the seal over the opening flap. I can't be bothered sending it back now right enough, I'll suck it up and keep it.

Thanks all!

What do you mean suck it up?

It sounds like you have some weird obsessive compulsive disorder. You don't have any reason to suspect this device is anything but kosher but you're thinking about sending it back because it wasn't shrink wrapped?

Get a grip.

The lack of shrink wrap means nothing, you can buy the materials and shrinkwrap anything you like - it just tends to be slightly looser and thinner on refurb items.
Really the best indications are fingerprints and loose cables, or sometimes a funny burning smell and/or combustion when you turn it on :)

OP, it's fine, stay away from rivers and sea ramps.

Well aren't you a charmer, it's amazing how cheeky people are hiding behind their keyboards. Would you really have told me to "get a grip" to my face, I highly doubt it ;)

As I explained, it never had the security seal on the flap as others have said there's had, the box was definitely open and after speaking to the customer service dpt, they confirmed it should have had a seal over the tab.

I'm sure you can and that's all well and great, however I don't think one of the biggest online retailers are in the habit of doing this to sell second hand goods, unless I'm missing something.

It always amuses me when parcels come by courier and they've got the tape that says to inspect parcel before signing if it looks tampered with... but it's all one generic roll of tape that anyone could buy and re-seal it with!

OcUK seem to have their own unique tape though :).

I bought a Garmin because my name in real life is Tom. The thought of being "Tom With A TomTom" was too much for me.

And no, I don't remember the packaging.
