Anyone bought a sofa from DFS?

Check smaller independent shops in your local area, you will get more for your money and better quality. If you have to and need to buy from the likes of DFS/SCS then do not buy any extra cover on any purchase, it's a complete rip off, they get commission for hard selling it to you no matter if you need it or not.

How much extra was the foam filling?

Is it like a memory foam type filling?

I can't remember exactly but I think it was around £300 extra for the two sofas, yeah its similar to memory foam, if you sit on it in the shop its much better feeling, and it springs back unlike the fibre ones which constantly need plumping up and eventually flatten. If your going for the intrest free finance its a no brainer as it only adds a few quid a month and you will have a much better quality sofa out of it.

mine was about £1600 for a massive corner suite (3 metres across)

spent ages looking around before choosing this, and I'm really happy with it :) Had it 18 months now.

That set up is crying out for a projector :D

Despise even going into the shop. Full of sleazy failed car salesmen in cheap suits, strutting around, jumping into the sofas like the bloody adverts.

Will never buy a sofa from them for that reason alone.

DFS are very very cheap with quality to match. GF insisted on buying from them last time we kitted out the lounge as they were cheap but next time around I'll probably pay a bit more from somewhere like John Lewis if funds allow.
3 seater we had from them has started to sag and the cushions had to be replaced within 12 months due to them being ****e.

Had mine for three years with plenty of use and still going strong!

As has been said though the insurance is a waste of money in a big way. I have it and they don't cover curry, coffee and flea treatment. I found out he hard way about the flea treatment one, put some on my dogs they ran straight in the room and shook and it stripped the die off the leather in little spots all over. The guy came out and said we should have secured the dogs some where, we had an open plan house so we couldn't. Then he said well it isn't a household item, to which I replied then how come you can buy it simply from tesco/asda. So in the end I had an offer of 8-12 weeks without a sofa and they would recover the panels damaged at cost price. Told them to ram it and I wanted to cancel the rest of the insurance policy. To be fair they did cancel it without hassle but I just thought it didn't really live up to what they made it out to be.

Other than that had no issues what so ever!

I had no problems with my two-piece. The service was fine if you avoid the sales patter, the delivery was equally fine although I was slightly annoyed at having to pay. I've had no contact since the sale, either.

Do people haggle in DFS?

I spy tissues......wonder what thy are for tom? ;)

And to answer the open we bought two sofas costing a grand each 13 years ago and both are just as comfy as when we bought them.

Depending on what you want DFS are just fine. Like with any company there can be errors and delays but we are on our 3rd DFS sofa now and all have been delivered without any undue delays (last one came 4 weeks early!)
I would advise getting the sofa care, for the cost of the sofa, 5 years protection on any damage is well worth it.

The alternative route is to get a cheap second hand one, in between DFS sofas 2 and 3 we had a 3 seated 20 year old leather sofa and arm chair (did us for 2 years, sold for £10), £10. Then we had a 3 sweater double recliner, and 2 sweater recliner that was about 10 years old for £20 (had for 6 months, sold for £20) and a three seated fabric sofa for free, that we gave away for free.

Main reason we did the cheaply sofas was a young child, and all the joys that go with potty training, and food, felt tip pens, etc along with the hot being in a constant state of decorating for different reasons as well.

Good point - not sure. Did you manage to get anything knocked off?

Oh and you won't be able to wrangle a deal, or extra discount, or free sofa career anything. So your best option is to use the interest free credit and leave the money in savings. You can cler the balance at any time with no penalty.

I had cash, offered cash, even knew the sales man and said I would bung him half the saving if he could get me a discount and nothing.

I'm terrible at haggling and the guy said he couldn't knock anything off because the profit margin on the unit was tiny as it was. I knew he was giving me the old sales talk but the sofa was cheap anyway and we loved it so I couldn't be bothered arguing.

I have seen the exact same sofa on a well known auction site for under £600 as opposed to £900 - the reason for the price difference being stated that they purchase them directly for the manufacturer.

I am just unsure if they will actually be the same as the one we have seen - the picture is identical though.

After looking online it seems haggling would be a worthless attempt.
