I didn't buy mine in the last week, got it in the last week of July. It appears to have the Sentelic touchpad as I have touch-to-scroll and the Synaptics driver never worked in Windows. Hope this helps.

Thanks for that matey, I think it would be impossible to get the synaptic now in store after Reading on the net :)

Sorry no date...thinking whats so special about the synaptic touchpad anyway?
I just read....

The Sentelic touchpad does not have finger sliding scroll features that are commonly found in many touchpads, instead scrolling is done by tapping the corners of the touchpad. Disabling the touch-to-click feature is also absent from the Sentelic touchpad settings and is causing frustration with users

Hmm mind doesnt seem to do anything fancy like that either...time for a fiddle me thinks.

I bought one the other weekend and sadly it's got the Sentelics Touchpad. It's the only issue with an otherwise great product. All new MSI Wind's have the Sentelics touchpad too.

There's a growing thread on the MSI Wind forum (not to mention a 20+ page one on the German forums) about this and it appears that until Sentelics develop some better drivers for the touchpad then we're stuck with the "tap-to-click" feature.

My advice is to ditch the Synaptics driver, don't both with the Sentelics one and stick with XP's default touchpad drivers as these seem to be a bit less sensative than the other offerings. In the meantime, install MouseImp Pro Lite which will give you a certain amount of usabilty as it allows you to scroll by holding done the righthand button.

I emailed Sentelics about the problem last week and they replied this morning:

Thank you for your feedback regarding Sentelic's touch pad.

We're sorry for any inconvenience our touch pad caused you. You'll feedback is
very important to us, and our RD team is currently evaluating the issue. Thank
you again for your patience.

Regards,

Jerry Yang

Interestingly this email was forwarded to 5 other people in Sentelics so they may actually be doing something about it!

I bought one today and I think it's got the Synaptics pad. I'm not completely sure as I haven't run up the supplied OS - the first thing I did was to swap the supplied HDD for a larger one and add a 1GB SODIMM - but the one I tried in the store had a Synaprics pad and mine looks identical. The Synaptics driver also installed without complaint and there're no warnings in Device Mangler. The thing I like least about the 4211 are the pad buttons.....

BTW Anyone found a decent case for it?

Have a look at this thread.
Now mine has a Synaptics pad and looks like this...

That apparantly is all wrong and it should look like this..

You can see that has far more options on it.
I'm not sure if this is an MSI versus Advent thing but in that thread the author says....."Good luck getting drivers directly from Sentalic: their download drivers page is password protected for manufacturers only."
I think I have the latest from Sentalic.

I'm begining to wonder whether this is just not a feature on the Advent.
If I get time tomorrow I may have a fiddle.

Now I'm completely confused as mine came up as a wheel mouse when I had the Synaptics driver installed. I've taken Trick's advice to remove the driver and let XP deal with it but it's still a bit too sensitive. I may well buy a Bluetooth mouse.

This appears to be the latest on the "tap-to-click" issue:

We very appreciate your comments.

According to “tap-to-click” issue, our technical support team is working on it and will add “disable” function into driver and absolutely release soon.

Another “scrolling” issue, our scrolling design is limited by Synaptics’ Patent, so we develop another technology on it.

We suggest that when you are using scrolling function, you can just hold your finger there until reaching the desired destination.

If you have other comments, please kindly let us know.

Thanks.

Yours Sincerely,

Sentelic Corp.

Seems like it's going to be fixed.

Thanks Trick.

The "tap to click" is a nuisance, and I've been turning off the mouse pad when I type as I'm fed up looking for my cursor!
I for one will be glad to see this issue fixed as it's a great little machine.

afaik the Synaptics pads remain unchanged. You should be able to diable "tap to click" under the hardware options. Dunno about the scroll issue. This hasn't been sorted on the Sentelics pads with the new drivers. I use MouseImp Pro to give me limited scrolling capability using the right button.

Thanks Trick :)
The disable touch to click was greyed out on mine. (mine wasSynaptics)
I tried that driver (it's here for those who want it as you need password etc on the sentelic site) and I can indeed disable tap to click :)
It's called Finger-sensing Pad now.
I dont really care about the scroll, it was just that tap to click doing my head in.
No more losing the cursor :)
