They probably ought to avoid stating things like this then, if they don't hold stock themselves and simply drop ship.

"AVAILABLE means that the product is available in our stock"

I think people don't know this because most people don't care about the ins and outs of supply chains. If a website says something is in stock it's perfectly reasonable to expect it to actually be in stock.

Pretty much, spot on.

If an item says "in stock" on a website, one would assume that the item is "in stock".

I ordered tyres from Autodoc and was generally satisfied with the service. Everything arrived on time and undamaged, just as expected. However, when a quality issue arose, I wanted to see how the warranty worked in practice. Admittedly, the process wasn’t the fastest, but we ultimately resolved the issue and received a clear answer. I appreciated that they didn’t just brush the issue aside. Overall, I get the sense that they try to resolve these kinds of issues. It just sometimes takes a little more time and patience.
