I just used a local sign making company, looks great and was pretty cheap. It also doesnt have any crappy advertisement over it.
So they are not road legal then...
You'd have to be very unlucky if the plate was in every way identical to a legal plate except having the name and post code of the company that made it printed on it.

Random question, if you have 'UK' on the number plates do you still need a big white UK sticker on the back for driving in Europe?
Even cheaper. My local Stephen James was something low like £14 for the pair.I go to my local main dealer for the relevant brand, and get them there. Usually similar sort of cost (£20).
