probably to do with stepping codes, some OC better than others. Hope 6300s are still good ones in a week or two when i get round to getting one.

Is stepping as important with these intel chips as it was with amd? Is there much variation with overclocking?

Pretty hard to tell really since there aren't many of them about. I've heard that chips from one particular week are better overclockers generally however, though I can't remember which week it was. I'll let you guys know how I get on with my week 28 E6600 when I can be bothered to put it all together.

I've jsut ordered one for fitting this weekend.

Be interesting to see what it's like with a Mach2...

Rather cold I should imagine :D

My E6600 is an L628, does that mean anything in particular?

There is sweet FA difference in the week steppings of the Conroes from the clocks most people are getting.

Like any CPU its just pot luck, you pays your money you takes your chance as they say

week 27 6600's are proving to be exceptional clockers

Why you want to know mate? I'm going to be buying one very soon, is there something i should be aware of?

After reading throught some forums it seems that week 28 is a good week with some good overclocks at low voltages.

let me see some results with these week 28 conroes :D

Thanks for the replies guys

The newer chips seem to be overclocking better than the older ones. ie, even the crap wk 28's seem to clock as well as/better than almost all the week 23/24's.
Have an L628 running pi @ 3.96ghz on 1.57v under water, know another person with an L627 (maybe 28, not sure) that's running just over 4ghz on water at ~ 1.6v :)
It's still pretty much pot luck as to how well they'll overclock
