Anyone used or got more information onf some software called SpyHunter by Engima Software Group.
It is supposed to be spyware removal software but tried it out and it is being picked up by other apps as spyware itself!

I would avoid it at all costs.

Note on Enigma SpyHunter: Enigma's SpyHunter anti-spyware application was listed on this page primarily because of the company's history of employing aggressive, deceptive advertising (1, 2, 3, 4, 5). The company was also known for exploiting the name "spybot" in its domain names and online advertising. These objectionable business practices were employed primarily from late-2002 to mid-2004.

Sometime during summer of 2004 the company halted the most obnoxious and objectionable aspects of its online advertising. It also unloaded all the "spybot" domains (which were promptly picked up by Paretologic for its XoftSpy anti-spyware application).

While there are still unresolved allegations that SpyHunter transmits the Windows Product ID from users' PCs (1), we can no longer classify this application as "rogue/suspect." Nonetheless, SpyHunter -- at least in its current state -- cannot be recommended because of its mediocre performance as an anti-spyware scanner. Testing indicates that it does not recognize some well-known spyware installations and has difficulty removing critical spyware/adware files even from those it does recognize (1). Given the many excellent competing anti-spyware applications that are available (some for free), users would do better looking elsewhere for trustworthy anti-spyware protection.

Domains: enigmasoftwaregroup.com, spywareremove.com, uninstallxupiter.com

While this does say that it is no longer listed as a Rogue application, I would avoid it at all costs.

Use something like Spybot or AVG Antispyware instead.

If you have any other worries about apps like this always check Spyware Warriors Rogue list: http://spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

Thanks for that!
Odd thing though, the machine is exhibiting signs of having the spylocker and zlob.trojan infection.
I had tried both adaware and spybot which had not removed it.
I found spyhunter on a link on xp-vista.com which seemed an OK site and it is the only piece of software that is currently 'finding' the zlob.trojan infection although you have to buy the software before it removes it!

I know some dodgy spyware detectors do find things that are not there but I already pretty much guessed what the problem with the machine was but just couldn't get any other detector to find and clean it.

Any other options to remove spylocker and zlob.trojan?

ZLOB Trohan & SpyHunter?

Just been contacted by my brother who has appears to have the ZLOB Trojan.

He was about to use SpyHunter v.3 to try and delete it.

Does anyone have any up-to-date info on either SpyHunter v.3 or how to remove the ZLOB Trojan?

Try Spybot Search and Destroy. Good little utility that.
Yup, ZLOB seems to have disabled / corrupted Spybot S&D. He also has AVG and Ad-Aware running and they dont seem to help either.

Researching ZLOB, I get the impression from the F-Secure, Symantec & McAfee sites that it was last around in significant numbers about two or three years ago, so this may be a "new", "improved" variant

Malwarebytes and Superantispyware are the best in class, and free.
I seem to recall reading somewhere that Malwarebytes was itself Malware? I'll give it a go anyhow.

Likewise I have never heard of but will try Superantispyware.

Thanks.

Will HiJackThis not get rid of it?
So far as I am aware, HijackThis is just a tool for analysing and reporting on running processes, registry settings and installed software isn't it?

I wasn't aware that it actually removed anything, it may have changed since last I looked at it - a few years ago ;)

I assure you that my original statement was correct. A quick search on this very forum will confirm it for you.

Never, EVER randomly download the first app that shows up on an internet search - grab it from softpedia or download.com where they are guaranteed safe.

Adaware [once good, now cack] and AVG [once good, now cack] have both been surpassed by the competition. Get Antivir free antivirus and run the odd scan with one of the aforementioned antispyware apps.

Use Opera [or even IE] with the mighty Admuncher, or Firefox with Adblock to massively reduce the risk of a recurrence.
