My HDMI connector on my HDTV is broken so I am curious if you can connect PS3 via component and if so are there any major negatives. I am starting to consider a PS3 due to the quality of the exclusives.

yeah youll get a component cable with it and there is only one downfall that i can think of which is sucky picture/sound quality,
when i first played gta4 in hdtv it was superb but when i then played it through the component cable i couldnt even read the text messages on the ingame phone

He is talking about component, not composite.

It will look fine, maybe not as clear as HDMI but it's still able to do 720p.

Iirc you will be limited to 720p with Component. Picture quality probably won't be all that different from HDMI.
Thanks, 720p is all I need and it's the native resolution for most games anyway. I know that there is not much of difference on the 360 between HDMI and component.

I am a keen gamer and there is not a hell of a lot coming out on the PC and 360 this year that really interests me. I would love to get stuck into Metal Gear solid, Unchartered and Infamous looks good. Plus there are some very good looking exclusives on the horizon.

You will still need to buy the cable though. The PS3 only comes with composite.

I use component for the PS3. Only downside for me is component can pick up slight interference, other than that it's great.
