As someone who dabbles in photography nowhere near as much as I'd like, I was wondering what people would think of the following rough idea?

What do people think of the idea of a Photography meet up somewhere with potential for quite a few nice photos?

I thought what might be a nice twist would be everybody meet up in somewhere like London, where there's quite a few different places you could take photos/quite a few different opportunities I'd imagine.

Everyone brings their basic set up, with it being welcome to people who are new and maybe not even with DSLR's, but just more interested in general, so long as they have a basic understanding of how their camera works and the general jargon surrounding it.

Then we could go to a couple of 'set' places, as the bunch of us and try and grab some nice photos.

Then maybe we could split up into smaller groups and try and grab some interesting photos of different areas. I'm thinking if people split up into smaller groups/pairs, it might be an awesome idea to get the people with less experience paired up with people with more experience? Just as a great learning opportunity more than anything else?

As someone who has little to/next to no real knowledge of proper photography and composition/ when different shots could be used etc... I feel that even getting to 'work' next to some of the guys here, would be a great opportunity really.

I'm just wondering if it's something the more experienced members also think is worth while, and it's something perhaps they'd be willing to do? I realise having someone pestering you with questions etc... all the time could be quite annoying xD

I realise one of the biggest issues here would probably be weather. If it's going to pour down with rain, it'll ruin quite a few opportunities, and from that perspective, booking in advance for travel and stuff could be a right pain....

I'd happily look into organising it if people think it could be an idea, but really it was just first thoughts as to whether it is really worth it at the moment?

Preliminarily I'm thinking a weekend around June-August in London could be an idea, but due to the whole lack of experience thing, I'd be open to ideas.

Because London Photography Festival.

It's in June.

It'll be awesome.

:p

Could be interesting, didn't know, can look into it :)

as stated in previous threads, yes! would love to come meet, swap tips and shoot around a big city, trouble is, people sometimes lose interest or real life/other **** interferes :( so they don't always happen :(

Yeah, well frankly, at the moment I'm getting gauges for numbers/dates. Seems like June might be an idea at the moment judging by the above. I figured a reasonable group in London could be pretty cool, but if people kind of drop out, I might just say, sod it, I'm going to London on this day to take a bunch of photos, if people want to come along feel free.
