As title really, as I've recently contacted my MP twice, I'd be interested to see how many people have written to their MP and what about and what kind of response. Or if you haven't what would make you write to your MP.

One of my letters was asking about his stance on ID cards, and one was about the appalling daily commute on the trains. Both times I got written replies - He is opposed to ID cards (not surprisingly as he is Conservative) and will scrap them if he gets into power, and he is taking up my gripes about the trains.

Here's the address for anyone interested....

You pay them, make them work for their money. :)

I'm certainly impressed you got a reply... although, like you said - it is what we pay them for.

Cheers for link, will take a look.....

Yeah, emailed my guy a few times; got answers to the questions I asked quite quickly.

More people should get involved instead of just sitting back and moaning; things might actually change then ...

Not sure which one I would write to. My home MP is a Tory and I know that he has differing opinions on several matters so that'd be useless. Then where I am at Uni, my local MP is Hazel Blears. And I've seen her on TV and haven't been impressed.

I'd probably write to my home MP though, the local councils have put in loads of traffic lights up and down the main road to Tesco causing the whole town to gridlock during rush hour and over the weekends. Having lived in Leighton Buzzard since 1991 I've seen the town grow in terms of residential accommodation and population but the basic infastructure is still roughly the same. LB has been wanting a minor injuries surgery/hospital for a while so that Milton Keynes/Luton & Dunstable only take the serious injuries. We've not been able to get one for whatever reason but I think soon the population in LB and surrounding villages will soon justify a mini hospital.

Recently emailed my local MP (Nigel Evans - C) concerning a community hospital in the area, and whether, despite its success, it was under threat (it isn't thank goodness) - and whether there are any plans to expand it/add more in the area (there aren't, which is a crying shame as it represents a model of healthcare which is better for patients by a million miles). He replied with a lengthy email, about the NHS in the area, and bemoaning Labour's sweeping closures, agreeing that community hospitals represent a better service, for only marginally increased cost, than a centralised service model. All this despite him not technically being my MP anymore, which is very commendable imo.

Also, in the past he has been very good at replying to my mail (3 previously), always sending a comprehensive reply. He has also spent a good half hour talking to me as part of my GCSE project a few years ago, about the conservative's stance on the legality of cannabis (pre reclassification). Not to mention giving my politics class a tour of the commons. All in all a thoroughly excellent MP, and I would happily vote for him despite not being a Conservative voter usually.

I have also questioned Jack Straw, once by email (generic fobbing off response to a question about a hospital in Blackburn, though I am not a constituent so fair enough), once at college (about social services - to which he gave an excellent answer, depite being slightly blindsided by the question :D ), and once when he was doing his soapbox thing in Blackburn (which is excellent, and I would recommend anyone go listen who has a vague interest in politics)

Yes I wrote to my MP regarding a local issue and he was most helpful, we exchanged about half a dozen letters and he got it sorted for me :)

You discussed local issues ? Shame on you.

Sent a generic email to my local MP regarding something to do with the WWF, can't remember exactly what it was though.

Waste of time, mine is a spineless idiot that is so far up Phoney Tony's backside that I keep expecting to see the fool everytime Blair opens his gob.

I'll do better than that, here he is. He has never rebelled (I like someone that kicks up a fuss now and then) and voted completely opposite to my views on just about everything. He is originally from London, parachuted into this city and does the usual baby kissing/wearing the local rugby team shirt pandering etc.. The problem is, the idiots that infest my city are stupid enough to vote for people like that. Not the next election though, I doubt he will win again.
