Anyone Disappointed With X1900 Performance

Ive always been with nvidia... but recently sold my bfg 7800 gtx oc 256mb, and bought a connect3d x1800 xt and flashed it with the pe bios.... now standard (with pe bios) im getting 10,056 in 3d05 but with the 7800gtx heavily overclocked to the max i got 9,115 ?? And i still have plenty to overclock the ati 2!!

But everyone knows the 7800 512 is the 1800XT(PE) competitor, not the GTX 256 version.

With my old FX53 @ stock and 7800 512 @ stock I got circa 9560 in 3Dmark05. With an overclocked CPU like yours and 7800 512 10K+ is easily achievable. Infact I broke the 10K mark with GPU only overclock easily.

X1800s are very good cards, the X1900XT(X) are even better.
But there is nothing wrong with the 7800s either - except perhaps their pricing, which is a little off the mark.

*edit* my point was, don't compare the 7800 256 with the 1800XT 512 - chalk n cheese.

Not price wise they aren't......

Agreed, as per my post, price is off the mark - which no doubt Nvidia will sort out now the X1900s are out and priced slightly cheaper than their previous gen 512s.

6mths ago i would have agreed with you, but the latest CCC dont hog memory at all, they used to take up an extra 120mb or so at boot time and be very laggy when using them.

Just out of curiosity i installed the new 6.1 CCC and was very pleasently surprised, takes up less than 10mb and hardly has any lag when using it.

Id still rather just have the display driver and tray tools, its smaller and got more features than the CCC. The last time I tried the CCC was 5.12, and that added an extra 100megs usage to my RAM at boot. Plus with Tray Tools, I dont need .Net installed:)

Im one of many whos bought the x1900 series cards and i think everyone seems very happy with them, as am i.
It plays all the games at max on a res of 1280x1024 which i know is overkill at that res but at least it will last a while longer and fingers crossed will play oblivion and all the other great titles at max aswell :)

Its alright for some!! Some of you guys must have money to burn, im looking at cards like the 6800GS while your all talking about 1900XT's etc!

I just swapped from the 6800GS to the 1800XT and its cost me a fortune. My current games were all pretty average requirements, gun, prince of persia etc, ive had to go out and buy battlefield, quake4 and fear to test out the new card :)

Afraid the x1800 XT is the competitor to the 256mb GTX as there is no x1800 XT PE, the x1900 was brought out to beat the 512mb GTX, and take the top spot, which it has done, the G71 is being brought out to beat the x1900, and regain the crown, which it will do, its called 1 up manship till the real cards in the summer G80/R600. :)

I understand one up manship :o
And I know there is no point arguing this point also.

Just to point out two things in the GTXs favour over the x1800 is that the GTX has a higher texture fillrate btw, but only slightly. It also has a higher pixel shader instruction rate.

Regarding the G71 and x1900s ALUs, remember that the x1900 has a mini ALU which can only do ADD and that the x1900 has a seperate ALU for texture lookups whilst the G7x series use a shared alu in the shaders for this. I'll do the sums later but if you take into account the shared nvidia alu i think the x1900 throughput maybe higher. This all depends on the clockspeeds tho :p

At the end of the day its like deciding whether you want to take Jenna Jameson or Jill Kelly to bed, whichever you end up with, your bound not to be disapointed.

Damn good point.

Now if only i can get both of them in the same bed i'll be set....... ;)

As for the graphics cards, you are right and as long as you are happy with the results of the one you have, then who cares.

I hope you mean Jameson and Kelly, and not a 7800GTX and a X1900 ;)

Hi there

Can't say I am dissapointed with hitting 16k in 3D Mark 2005 and 10k in 3D Mark 2006 with a Crossfire setup. Certainly quick enough in my eyes and powerful enough to play games with everything on maximum detail on a 30" LCD Monitor at 2560x1600 resolution. :)

I have to agree!

Gone from a 6800U to a X1900XT, even with carp drivers it still thrashes the 6800U. 1600x1200 all the way!

Install just the driver package and then use ATI Tray Tools... much better than the CCC or the CP IMO, doesnt hog much memory and doesnt require that you install .Net

ATI TT does not work with the 1900XTX cards! -so I am stuck with the CCC!

the only thing i am dissapointed about is the delay of the RD580 mobos. I was going to build a system with the x1900 xt-x... i have 2 options now, buy a cheap mobo until the rd580 comes out or just wait.. and if i wait i might as well hang on to see what nvidias new toy is like.

as someone has said the performance beats the gtx 512 in most things and its cheaper ...i wouldnt call that a dissapointment! :D

Thats whats its come to 2047x1600+ gaming madness !

G71s taped out and due end of feb, so again literally something around the corner as usual....

Am happy with my GTX-512megger the fan doesnt even spin up after 3 hours of BF2, got 1 12db 120mm accoustic dustproof fan blowing towards it in an Eclipse 62 case.

Think with Vista due later on this year and ATI/Nvidia next gen beast arriving will be a good time to upgrade, but will still wait for a Battlefield 2 killer (which I doubt will appear)
