Hi.

Need a new mobo as my next purchase, but another month or so I will be getting an extra 24" screen for music production.

However, as an added bonus, I like the idea of running 2xscreens when gaming.

Anyone doing this, or know what games support it?

Dual screen gaming is something which is underused in my opinion. The potential could be HUGE. Understandably though, is a gamble making something which only the minority will be able to play.

Indeed, supcom is almost unplayable in dual screen mode...

Anyways I know about :
Supcom
FSX
Star trek aramada II

And that's it :(.

Doesnt crysis use it aswell?

Dual screen gaming really wouldnt work well with first (or even third) person shooters. 3 screens....yes...but 2....no because you'd have the joining of two monitors smack in the middle of your view where your trying to aim.

i seemed to take a big hit frame rate wise using dual monitors, even when i took the 2nd monitor off. example i went from constant 125fps to less than 60fps. i had to reinstall my gfx drivers to solve the issue. sounds like there was more to it, but i only had low framerates after i added a 2nd screen (using a 3780X2).

I used to play Supreme commander dual screen,
8800GT SLi seemed to handle it fine
24" + 22", But I found that I was ignoring the other screen completely.

What was more useful was playing a game and say, playing a movie on the other screen if you have guests over or email

I play sup com dual screen too. not a great setup, but I do still look at the 2nd screen a lot. Would like more rts to have the map on screen2. But yeah also when playing games that are windowable, like wow, I watch films / eps on screen 2

The idea is to use 1 screen for the actual gameplay, and the other for in-game menus, alternative views, live stats, etc.

X2: The Threat does this pretty well.

Imagine the possibilities for something like a racing game, screen 1 shows you the default 1st person view, while the 2nd screen shows your rear view, or a view of the track from above, giving you a more accurate idea of where you are. Multiplayer 1st person shooters could display stats/achievements on the 2nd screen, instead of you having to press a button to view them.

FPS games where you control (or are accompanied by) a 2nd friendly NPC are pretty common these days, how about having the 2nd monitor display the view of the NPC so you can keep track of where they are and what they're doing at all times?

Supreme Commander springs to mind.

i find dual on supcom a really rubbish, it basically only displays the commander and its like you dont need to be constantly looking at a useless image all the time.

and looking at the whole map, well its not all that, simply zooming in and out will fix that...

world in conlict = dual and i think its useful

only displays the commander? What do yuo mean? on sup com I use screen 2 as a full rendered view like screen 1 so yo can zoom in and out as far as you like. or you can use it cartographic so the map is only lines and the enemies are only icons.

Unless ofcourse you mean you are stuck with the menu picture... Then yuo need to go to graphics options and set the res of monitor2...

I'd be interested in dual screening if for my game of WiC allowed me to have the normal game on one screen, and the map view of the entire battlefield on the other. Possible?
