I've never been interested in Blackberry before, have no need for their unique features like BBM or BBS, but I'm quite excited to see a powerful, fully-featured OS like QNX get put on a phone. I'm curious to see how much RIM will cut it down and restrict what you can do with it, or if we'll be able to have full multitasking and be able to run full desktop applications on it.

Im pretty pumped for the new BB10, its no longer called BBX;)....im probably the only BB fan left on these boards...seems like BB's get a lot of unwanted hate for no particular reason but meh each to their own.

I use my BB 9900 pretty much everyday with my work related activities and i also have the S3 for my down time useage. Of course my BB doesnt do half the stuff my S3 does ie apps wise but for pumping out emails, texts and bbm's...nothing comes close to it.

But im definitely looking forward to the release, which is 18 days away now. Im not all that interested in the touch version but rather the QWERTY keyboard version as i prefer having a physical keyboard over a touchscreen.

One thing is for certain, BB10 wont be as closed down as the iphone. But i dont think it will be as open as Android or maybe it will. No one really knows until the first retail versions are out for sale and people start messing around with them.

I think as proved in this thread and the other one a few days ago the only people who care about BBX are existing BB owners/fans and people who want a keyboard.

I can't see what it can bring that both iOS and Android don't already have covered (from a non-business perspective at least). The physical keyboard crowd are a fairly small market segment and I prefer it on the touchscreen anyway.

It's the same reason I find Windows Phone very 'meh' - it's got nothing to offer over the competition.

I want it to succeed purely to drive competition.

Pretty much why I want it to succeed, getting pretty ****ed off with iPhones and Androids dominating the mobile phone space.

As long as RIM is still around, I'll keep buying BB's...just hope that the new BB10 OS and phones will be successful. As long as the big name apps developers get on board, which they are then I don't see why RIM can't compete with apple and android. IMHO I think apple have got to the stage where if they don't pull something spectacular out if their backsides then they might find themselves exactly where RIM are now in a few yrs...they are getting stagnant now.

Kinda the wrong reason for buying a product. (and I have to stop myself from buying a playbook).

Do explain why its the wrong reason for buying a product??

Look the simple fact is that i like BB's, they fit my purposes for what i need/want in a device. Im not a huge app whore in all honesty but i also have an S3 which has apps that arent available on a BB. Thats the only reason why i have an S3 otherwise i wouldnt have got one in the first place. Talking about apps, its apps like Skype, Tango and a few others that i use to keep in touch with both my brothers who live on opposite sides of the world at the moment. Hopefully these apps will make their way over to the new BB10 devices and if they do then goodbye S3.

As for the playbook??, ive had mine since launch and i love it. Again apps wise its not as diverse as the ipad or various android models out there. But i love the size of it and it again does everything i want it to, which is browsing the net whilst watching tv...means i dont have to lug my laptop downstairs etc.

Nope, I can't see who it's designed for these days. Most industries have left BB behind as well.
But as others, more competiton the better.

I cannot stand the BB I have to use for work. I even have trouble with the physical keyboard. The only pluses it has to offer are that it is bombproof and it has a week long battery life.

The only thing that would make the BB10 interesting to me is if it has a superb battery life but also function as well as android/iphone devices. I dont need a million apps, just an easy to use UI.

Well the only reason BlackBerry's of the past had good battery life was because they had tiny screens and anaemic processors, not because RIM were performing crazy voodoo magic. So don't get your hopes up.

And the battery life went down the pan with the Bold 9900.

Would it be that hard to shove an ultra efficient UI (with limited processes; email, calls, texts, bbm, maps and a solid browser) on top of an efficient CPU?

That would be a winner for me.

It's called an old BlackBerry (ignoring the solid browser requirement). Or a Nokia E72 or whatever they were.

Surely once a phone can get you through a long busy day the battery is doing the job? I'll take running my iPhone down to 50% each day and putting it on charge over having to use a terrible old phone. Yes I'd like a longer battery life but not if the compromise is what RIM make.
