So, I'm more of a heavy gamer than I am anything else to be honest.
Back in january I went ahead and bought my first mac which was a Mac Mini, which is great, i've loved absolutely every second of it, but here's the thing;

I've switched from a pretty good gaming rig, quad core, 5770, etc, etc high spec'd machine, where as my mac mini is only like a c2d, onboard graphics and so on, now, I'm able to afford a MBP and with the new models just coming out, this would prove ideal and what not, i'm currently reusing my windows machine again, soley for gaming, but my mac is just not getting used and i don't want this to happen.

Do you think I should go ahead and get the MBP (I need a laptop for uni anyway) so I can get like 15% off which is also great, but i wouldn't want it to be unused and what not >.<

so yeah, question really;

Do you forum members ever find yourself going back to your windows machine for gaming and find yourself using your mac less and less.

PS: I think if i went and got a MBP it would be much more beneficial due to the fact that it is infact a laptop and not a desktop so I could use both at the same time.

I would sell the Mac Mini (only if you need to though, they make great media centre's) and get a MBP. I don't find myself using my MBP less as I use it for College with Pro Tools and other music and post pro stuff. Literally all that is on my Windows Gaming PC is Steam.

What MPB were you thinking of exactly? The high end 15" may suffice for your gaming needs but i'm not sure, there are a couple of benchmarks floating about. I'm thinking about selling my desktop and 13"macbook to get a desktop replacement 15" mpb...

Sell the mac mini buy a mbp for uni work and general use and keep your windows machine for gaming. I'm perfectly happily using an xbox360 for gaming and iPad/mac mini c2d and soon to be mbp i7 for a htpc and general web browser.

A powerful desktop PC and a MacBook is a great combination in my opinion. If you're a serious gamer a Mac is never really going to cut it. I sold my iMac and never looked back. It was a great computer but a bit gutless - the newer iMacs are a lot more powerful but they come at a high cost. A MBP would almost certainly get more use due to it being a laptop.

We have a mbp and a the pc in my sig. Tbh honest I rarely bother using the mbp these days. I prefer sitting at a desk using a mouse and a nice keyboard. I use an iMac at work, so I am more than familiar with os x, however for every day use I think windows 7 gives a comparable experience. A couple of years ago I would have used the laptop on the couch etc, but now I have an iPhone for that.

I use my PC for very casual gaming, and would spend 95% of my time on my 13" macbook... Trying to find some detailed benchmarks for the new 15" MBPs to see if it would be an adequate desktop replacement. Most of my time is spent doing post production audio work and the PC even on Windows 7 is very liable to crashes although it is faster.

Thanks for all the amazing feedback guys, it's very much appreciated.

What I was hoping to do was indeed sell the MBP on e-bay or something like that, buy either the MBP 13" or the 15" depends on the money at the time and then from there use it as my alternative computer as my MBP will only really be used for like..

Uni work.
Working in bed.
when i'm out and travelling, nothing hardcore.

With the new processors coming out for the MBP's recently too, this is why I'm thinking about getting one again, I do love Mac's an awful lot, I must admit.

Then something is wrong with your setup, I have never had Windows 7 crash and I've been using it for over a year - same installation. Can count on one hand the number of times a specific app has crashed too.

The only time I've had blue screens is when I was testing my new overclocking setup, aside from that everything is smooth sailing.

I like my MacBook it's great - but Windows 7 is still a fantastic OS and I certainly wouldn't go completely OS X.

and I barely use my Mac, like I said it's great but frankly it's not all what it's made out to be, it looks nice and feels nice to use but you know, the typical Apple fanboy derp derp Windows is bad, crashes, a lot of hassle...yawn. None of that is true.

Why would I use an inferior specced machine to my Windows PC? Does my PC crash? Nope. Does it feel like a hassle to use in comparison? Nope. I don't think you should feel obliged to use your Mac just because it's there. That's ridiculous.

It sounds more like you want to use your Mac but you can get everything done just as well on Windows while still being able to run demanding games. I don't see the problem with that.

You're not the only one that has been led into thinking everything on Mac is better and peachy, a lot of people in these very forums think the same for some laughable, unjustifiable reasons.

Still don't get me wrong, I love my MacBook. :D It only really gets used if I'm playing a console game and want to browse the net a bit or use MSN while on the sofa. (or travelling!)

Its more a couple of specific programs (audio production software) and setting up external devices where the problems occur, such as a midi keyboard where setup and mapping all the controls is incredibly easy on the mac, but very difficult on Windows. It should be effectively plug in play but it took me days to set up on Windows and instantly on OSX.

Otherwise, I agree Windows 7 is a great operating system.
