God im finding this so hard, first i was 5th in te league with man utd, which frustrated me so i left and joined watford who were 16th, but now im 20th and cant win no matter what, i think its tactics but im not sure its just so annoying.

So anyone else find it hard?

I found it quite hard (although I've only played it managing Brentford!). I enjoyed the previous versions as I found that I could play it without too much heavy thought, but with 2007 I find that you have to go into a lot more depth with the tactics and strategy. It's taken a lot of the fun away for me :(.

Ive been playing FM recently with a mate over the network as Spurs.

Have put a superb team together, but only won 4 games in about 20. Makes me so angry when Lua Lua scores a 25 yarder, James get MOM and I concede a penalty in the last 10mins, which allows Portsmouth to win 2-1. Its that crap all day for me at the moment, whatever i change.

Utterly ridiculous. The AI makes me want to put a fist through the screen.

found it easier possibly because Liverpool have a good team to start with. Though ive put together a dream team though.

Reina

Marcelo Albiol* Carragher Rafinha/Vandenborre

Rise/Gonzalez Gerrard* Alonso/Sissoko Joaquin/Pennant

Pazzini* Bellamy/Crouch

subs

Garcia
Aguero*
Kewell
Nugent
Paletta
Kirkland

Yes it is pretty difficult
The real nasty one though was FM 2006 - Liverpool on that were frankly insane
SOOOOOO good - Sissoko was just ridiculously good, as was Dirk Kuyt

In one game on FM 2007 as Chelsea, I was playing Reading, I scored (1-0), then they scored (1-1), then I scored (2-1), then they scored (2-2), then I scored (3-2), then they scored (3-3)... Then I scored twice more - what a game! Final score 5-3!!!

to be perfectly honest i actually found it too easy and couldn't be bothered with it anymore. 2 of my mates were the same but we've all been addicts since97/98 and previous to that. In my first season i won all the trophies with liverpool, scrapped that. Used Burnley and got promoted in my 1st season with 2 losses and 2quarter final appearences in cups. My mates used spurs/man utd/inter milan/psv/dundee and found it to be the same. Maybe the difficulty has been up'd since a patch?

Have only played 01/02 since i gave up on 2007

Im managing Villa at the moment and im finding it so hard to grasp the tactics and line up etc etc....Just brought it 3 days ago and have only got around to installing it yesterday. Drawed 2 and won 3.

The game can be hard if you just pick your team, choose your tactic and let the game run.

Personally, I dont have a problem with it. After a season of two of getting my team (Spurs) together I am able to challenge for honours nearly every season.

During a game I am often changing tactics to counter those of the opposition. There is no point selecting a attacking tactic and sticking with it, and you wonder why in the last 5 minutes you conceed lots of goals. Your players will tire due to the excessive demand of constantly attacking that they leave gaps for the other team to exploit. Quite realistic to me. Also, there is no point just setting any old tactic if the players you have cannot fulfil the requirements you have set. No point using attacking wingers if the players you put there cannot run, or cannot cross a ball.

Also, you need to latest patch to fully appreciate the game. The original out of the box version has AI bugs that make games seem one sided, and lots of red cards and injuries. So, download the patch and then restart the game, you will notice the difference.

Remember, its a management sim, simply expecting to win by buying the best players, and setting a tactic up and not changing it wont bring success.

I find it really difficult - any decision you make doesnt seem to have any impact on whats happening!!!
Personally I think they have sucked all the fun out of it with it being almost impossible to sign someone for less than 4 times their value!?!?

I have gone back to CM01/02 - there is a cracking data update out there and even a program that lets you amend the starting year!! - Far more fun!!!!!! (although I still miss my "Interested Foreign Based" list from CM97/98!!!)

FM2007 has strived for realism - if I wanted realism, I'd become a football manager - I bought a game coz I wanted to have some fun! :D

Same here, been playing CM01/02. Rebuilt my PC and now cant find my disc though araghhhhhhhhhhhhhh

OH
I am playing Vanilla un patched version...
I am getting injuries ALL THE TIME, like big meaty 3 month injuries.
Is this a problem with the game which gets patched?

yep, unpatched injury problems were just over the top, now i hardly get any, well i do have different training to the standarad one.

I've just won the Premiership with Newcastle. Was my second season over a network game with a roomy playing as Man Utd.

Before start of first season I got rid of Dyer, Soloana, Ameobi and the donkey that is Bramle and brought in Sherman Cardenas, Leigton Baines and Chelsino who played amazingly. However the first season we struggled big time and can came in 7th.

However since Owen was back I sold him for a hefty 15mil price tag and also got rid of Given as he gets pissy when I get rid of Owen. With that money I bought Vidic and a keeper called Oscar Ustari. Tim Krul from the youth team makes an excellent backup keeper too so I get rid of Harper.

About to start my 3rd season now. Freddy Shepered keeps trying to get rid of my best players though. Barcelona offered 29mil for Martins and he automatically accepted it...luckly they didn't have the cash. The annoying thing is his status is "Wants to leave the club as soon as possible" so I reckon he's just trying to get as much cash as he can to make a runner with >_<

Its not that its too hard.

I find it incredibly annoying watching players do whatever they want even though you set specific instructions for them in tactics. Having to guess what each slider does is a pain as well mainly because the manual and user guides are rubbish.

Watching your striker shoot from miles out time and again. even though you tell them not to. :(

Watching your defenders get pulled all over the park even though you tell them not to close down and not to tight mark :(

I've not played FM since the last patch release and even then i sacked it off after about an hour of playing it.

Sigames have 1 more chance to get it right before i ditch the game for good.

i never manage to play the game for long as i always get bored. But when i was playing, i found experience to be one of the main things to hunt down. I look for old experienced international players who are either available on a free, or for a cheapish price. I also take my time in looking for scouts, coaches, physios etc. I normally dump the rubbish staff and replace them before the season starts. Once this is done, i then set up my 5 star training schedule for the players, breaking them down into positions. I try not to move the squad around too much as i found it to have negative effects, so i try to keep the same first team and not make too many transfers.

Wow, I've just won my 13th premiership on the trot with Ipswich Town.

I play a defensive 4-1-3-2 playing on the break.

All through my team I like to have players that can win the ball in the air. I think aerial ability is far too overpowered in this version of FM.

One thing I found that really improved my results, and consistency was simply not talking to the press before games. Avoiding them totally seemed to be a good way to continue a winning streak.

With team talks, I just wish luck 90% of the time. With "sympathise" if we're playing well but drawing, or "You can win this!" if we're not playing well but drawing.

One of the things which really irritates me about the CM/FM series is the way you can't assign player instructions, only position instructions. By which I mean, say you have a striker like Henry who is fast and a good dribbler, so you tell him to "run with ball". Now, lets say for some reason you replace him with another striker due to injury or whatever, who this time is a completely different type of forward, say one who is really strong but slow (eg Viduka) who you want to hold up the ball rather than run with it.

The problem here is that you have to physically go into the options and change it because the attributes are not tied to a player. Yes, you could save a tactic, but the problem there is that you would end up needing thousands of different tactic files to cope with all the possible permutations (e.g. what happens if you've got a different centremid as well? Or maybe your new rightback is useless at crossing?)

A great timesaving alternative I've wanted for years would be for you to be able to set default player instructions for each individual player, irrespective of whether they are in the current XI or not. This would save so much time having to keep retweaking tactics following substitutions, or when picking a different team from your last match for whatever reason.

As regards the overall difficulty, one thing I do think is an improvement on the older versions is that the stats actually mean something. In older versions like CM'93/94 or 97/98, players could have rubbish attributes but if their underlying 'hidden' skill level was good they would be excellent players. So the only real way of judging how good a player was from his value (in relation to age) or sometimes average rating. At least in the FM games the best players tend to be the ones with the best attributes.

It's no harder than FM2006 was.

I started with Hartlepool, finished first and gained promotion to League One. Currently 1/4 way through season and still 1st.

Can't see me winning Championship next season though. Got a couple of great loans (Heaton and Kazim-Richards) and somehow signed Sibierski on a free (and he got 7 MotM awards in a row!)
