Anyone else find gaming on a Big Screen and Sofa to be "Uncomfortable"?

I cannot pinpoint as to why, but whatever type of game I play, it does not feel right unless I am "up close".

Maybe because gaming for me as a child meant sat at a desk in my room with a 14" TV hooked upto a ZX Spectrum and that maybe instilled something into my brain about how games "should be played".

Even in Arcades, you were "up close" so back then, it was the way games were played.

In my lounge I use a expensive poang to sit on which leans back with a foot rest. I can move it to be closer to the TV which is WIN. Sofa does feel to far away...

tried adjusting the fov? for pc gaming on the tv from the sofa that is. I find gaming from far away with such a lack of peripheral vision really uncomfortable. if im gaming 12ft from the screen on a 50 inch tv It's just really strange to have everything so centered and no peripheral vision.

Depends entirely on the game type.

Something that requires accuracy in aiming/concentration on timing for certain moves has to be on PC.

Casual gaming such as arcade racing/sports games (where I'm not looking to win every game :p) can be played on the big screen no problems :)

That is the thing, for me, that is not the case.

I feel like I have somehow lost the connection with the game, if that makes any sense.

I usually try to play whatever I can on my TV, but that is mainly because it is a much higher quality than my monitor! Any third person games/RPGs I always try to to play on the tv, though it isn't always 'best', in which case I switch. I find it easier to become immersed in a story the more comfortable I am, so game mainly on the TV from my sofa tbh.

Come to think of it, a very high proportion of my games seem to be third person. I seem to be drifting away from FPS/strategy quite a lot(X-com aside, which I played at my desk).

Same here. But I do wonder if it's because a small monitor just a few feet away occupies more "space" in our vision than a big TV ten feet away.

Size/distance/vision is a funny thing. The Sun is huge but so little in our eyes.

"I have a big 50" TV."

"Nah. I have a bigger 22" monitor. Seriously."

lol

Much like eating on the settee feels wrong to me, gaming should be at a nice desk close up. Guess it all about how you were brought up. While growing up I always had desk computers rather than consoles.

I can easily do both, PC at desk or 360 on sofa.

I prefer the PC/Desk myself and can spend hours playing without issue, however, console gaming on the TV seems to make my eyes tired and give me eye strain :(

Despite being predominantly a pc gamer for life, I love kicking back on sofa with a controller playing on big screen. Just do it seldom as I feel like am hogging it.

But I guess I like to get away from the pc/desk as I sit at a desk all day at work.

The biggest screen I've ever gamed on is the 24" LCD I'm using now. Before that the biggest would've been a 19" CRT TV.

When I originally bought a PS3 it was bought as a BluRay player and I did give Burnout Paradise a quick go on a 42" plasma TV. I found myself sitting on the edge of the sofa at first then I stood up and then I moved closer and closer to the TV. After about ten minutes. I turned it off and went back to the PC.

So I know exactly how Gimpymoo feels, probably because we are a similar age and have grown up playing up close on small screens.

I'm still intrigued to give Steam OS a whirl, when it's available, for streaming games from my PC to the TV just because you can. Not because it's something I think I'll do regularly though.

It's fairly uncomfortable for me on PC or console as I either get dead butt cheeks on PC seat or back cramp on console as I play sitting on the edge of my bed. If I sit right back against my headboard its quite difficult to see things on a 32" TV..

I can counter the console discomfort with pillows but I constantly have to readjust my position when on PC.. But it isn't to bad, I just tend to not sit in the chair properly :p (self inflicted discomfort).

I have purchased a 24" 1080p monitor and its quite nice when closeup because everythings big and in your face lol. Would love something a bit bigger but I would probably have to see what its like first hand, before taking the plunge.

I have a projector downstairs which I hooked my PS3 up to as well and that is probably the best experience I've had in terms of comfort and visibility.

You should invest in an Eames. Pure luxury!

Sadly I don't have room for one in this house but will have when I move!

I find that I can play FPS games on my PC - Monitor with no issues what so ever...as soon as I play a FPS on a console, sat on my sofa I start to feel sick and have to turn it off.

Nice TV and sofa few mates and console its the best gaming experience for me, it beats sitting on desk with headset playing online.

Nah get a HDMI cable in the 2nd slot of your GPU and somehow put it under the carpet to your TV, get the 360 wireless bits then sit on your sofa playing games with upto 4 pads with PC graphics :)
