Since its now been 5-6yrs since the next gen has been around, is anyone else getting bored of gaming? I seem to remember the same thing happening in the last gen (PS2/XBOX) after about 5yrs i started to go yawn, and they never got a look at. But then the next gen came about and it gave a breath of life to gaming. I thought at the time, it was perhaps because i was getting old and just growing out of it. But this gen proved otherwise.. I think i've enjoyed this current gen, as much as I have on previous generations. Perhaps not as much as the original ZX Speccy / C64 days or the SNES, but definately as much and if not more than the Amiga/ST and PS1, & PS2/xbox days.

I have a 360 & PS3 sitting here, and i just can't be bothered to even turn them on to play then whatsoever.

Anyone else feel the same? Thing is they seem to want to string this generation out for a long longer than the previous gens.. So perhaps I've got some way to go, before getting into it again.

I wouldnt say im bored, just not as enthusiastic as i used to be, really enjoying Infamous 2 at the moment, but there are such a glut of overhyped bad games out lately its spoilt the whole gaming scene for me, its all become one massive cash cow.

Seeing as PS1 was released in 1994, ps2 in 2000 and ps3 in 2006, and current guesstimates are for PS4 in 2013, that seems pretty much par for the course in terms of lifespan.

Personally, I'd be happy for them to drag it out for another few years, I don't really fancy forking out £500 for a new console any time soon.

As for getting bored, the PSN outage was actually a great thing for me because I rediscovered the joy of single player gaming again. I probably wouldn't have played LA Noire or Portal 2 if it hadn't happened, and they stand as 2 of the best games I've ever played.

I'm having trouble getting back into online gaming, but I think that's a lack of a decent shooter...I figure one of MW3 of BF3 will solve that.

it seems a bit boring for now but i think come september time it will really kick off, there are about 8 games i have on preorder and i really cant wait for some of them like Gears of War 3, Battlefield 3, Batman Arkham City. its always the really good games of the year that keep it going for me and without them i probably would have gave up a while a go, there doesnt seem to be a middle ground for games anymore its either very good or very bad iv found.

This happens to me. Last year I got through it by buying a PS3 and playing through all the exclusives, this year I've got through it by playing loads of Kinect and PSP. In the past I had a Wii for a year, a DS for pokemon etc. I do love me a Bioshock or Mass Effect but I know now I do get bored easily and need new shiny toys or new experiences to keep me excited.

I think it's a natural consequence of playing the same sort of game experiences over and over and I think the trick is to mix it up a bit. With a PS3 and 360 it sounds like you're pretty exclusively hardcore, have you thought of getting the odd 'casual' game or the odd game you'd never normally consider? Do you also have a huge backlog of games weighing you down that you look at and can't be bothered to go back to? If so think about drawing a line and selling a load towards something shiny and new? Maybe Move or Kinect or Rock Band? Get Dance Central and let yourself go.

I find a lot of new games the same old stuff.

Been playing my Snes and N64 a lot recently, games back then just seemed more replayable.

not really, i've rediscovered my obsession for FFXIII and currently whipping everything senseless around the Vallis Media :D

Try PC gaming maybe? More games, better graphics and online play.

Console gaming is still good but if you've completed all the top games then there's nothing left for me to say!

I hope they release new consoles soon though, they have the technology to make a console with graphics better than the PC probably.

Also try playing old school games, me and my friends recently started playing Crash Bandicoot, Metal Gear Solid and Gran Turismo, forgot how fun they are..even now with the out dated graphics.

I'm seriously getting bored of it. I cant even play a game more than 1-2 hours anymore at a time then not come back to it for a week later!

have a few years off. I didnt buy a new console until 2 years ago, last one I had before that was N64. enjoying how far the tech and come since then and am constantly amazed at some of the games on offer these days.

imagine having never laid eyes on a fps game newer than goldeneye, then buying a 360 with modern warfare 2. was a revelation.

That's "old school"?

Depending on your age and when you got into gaming of course it is. In 15 years time Uncharted and Halo is going to be classed as old school by some people.

Old school for me is things like the original Sim City, the original Prince of Persia, Premier Manager 2 and maybe even Theme Park. All games I was playing when I first got into gaming since the first console we had in our house was a PS1 much later. Even then it wasn't mine and I barely played it and when I got a PS2 at about 15 I had no money or games so didn't have much on it. I've never owned a Mario game, or a sonic game (until sonic 1 & 2 came up on PSN with trophies free for PSN+ :D)

To my dad old school is pong and pacman lol

As for the OP, I don't think it has anything to do with how long the consoles have been out, you just need a break. At the end of the day you play the games because they are good games, not because they are on the PS3 or X360. Its difficult for me to understand looking at the list of games coming out this year that anyone who likes gaming being un interested in at least some of them.
