Anyone else got Reboot Issues with a new Conroe setup?

Evening

Spent all day today building my new toy, couldn't get it to power up at all. Played around and got it going, but the hardest part of all was trying to install Windows XP.

The thing is that my PC kept rebooting about 2-3 times and when it did POST it would default to original bios settings and lose me my DVD as my 1st boot device and set it back to floppy. (I dont use a floppy drive)

Now I managed to stop this as I can press F11 (Boot options) and then F2 (go into bios) and once in bios, not change anything but exit straight away and a menu will show me a boot list. So choose my DVD drive and off it goes and install windows. (took me 2 attempts, as when XP install rebooted my PC it did multiple reboots and I lost the installation.)

Ok got XP installed ok, and all my software and everything. But if I choose reboot from XP it will do multipule reboots before bios. Sometimes when I power down the PC totaly, it will reboot multiple times too.

When it happens it only reboots about 2-3 times before trying to load default bios settings.

Now I have searched the forums and the general concensus is that it may be my memory and a compatability problem.

Once in Windows XP all is fine and runs smooth and stable.

Anyone else got any ideas what it might be? Or should I try for some other memory and send the G.Skill back to Overclockers?

Any comments at all would be helpfull

Cheers

My systems spec is....

E6600 2.4Ghz Conroe
G.Skill 2Gb DDR2 LA PC2-5300 CAS4 Memory
Asrock ConroeXfire-eSata2 DDR2 M/board (bios at factory settings)
HIS X1900XTX ICE3 512Mb Pci-Express
Tagan TG580-U15 580W ATX2.01 PSU
Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320Gb SATAII Hdd
Asus DRW-1608P3S DVD+RW
Thermaltake Tsunami Case

Try upping the memory voltage and/or settings the timing of the memory manually, G.Skill memory and some boards really don't mix well.

Why did you get an X1900XT-X? You could have got a normal XT and got a better motherboard. Sorry it doesn't answer your question, I was able to get my Allendale system booted straight away, which totally suprised me! I was expecting a load of beeps and shut downs.

One thing I don't understand on my new pc is, when I press the power button, it starts to turn on, then turns off, then powers up properly. What's up with that?

I will try upping the memory 1 step and see what happens.

I got the X1900XTX as I wanted the best, but you are right though. I could've done it your way. But I may be moving onto another m/board soon anyway, as the asrock only cost about £60ish. Just want to see what the best combination of Conroe/M/board is out there in a few months time.

Thanks for the reply's
