Anyone else hate eating at restaurants?

Eating at nice restaurants is one of my favourite things to do. Most people my age prefer going to a club which I hate. To loud, can't have conversation etc

Can't afford to do it much though.

Going to restaurant that specialises in steaks is usually heaven for me. I can never cook steak as good as they can, I can't even find the steak as thick as they get it.

You're not that important, they aren't watching you
  • I don't like watching strangers eat, especially fat ones.
    Stop staring at other people
  • Food is over-rated, I mostly want to fill my belly I don't really care what it tastes like as long as it's healthy. I don't like the idea of eating for entertainment.
You're going to the wrong places then. A good restaurant surprisingly, serves good food.
  • I don't like spending a lot of money on something that I'm just going to poop out.
Just eat Pot Noodles then for the rest of your natch?
  • I don't like having to tip people just for doing their job.
You don't have to tip if you don't feel the serice was worth it
  • They usually give you too much food and it gets wasted.
Just get a starter, or share a dish
  • It's usually too loud, too dark, or too crowded.
You aren't going to restaurants that suit your tastes
Seriously though, you aren't going to places that suit your tastes. Look (or try) harder ;)

Actually, if people can afford to go out clubbing on the weekend and blow £50.

£50 per head in a meal will get you something awesome in most places.

Does anyone else think eating at restaurants is over-rated? I don't know anyone who doesn't love it. I hate having to pretend I'm enjoying myself when I'm obliged to go out to eat.

  • I don't like strangers watching me eat. They aren't watching you eat, you're paranoid.
  • I don't like watching strangers eat, especially fat ones. Then don't.

Somewhat related I guess, went to a pub today to get lunch with some friends, wasn't expecting much (an Irish pub that serves only Thai food?)...

Turns out the chef was from Thailand and made absolutely awesome food, best Thai I had ever had and was only £5 for 2 courses :D.

I normally get irritated about poor quantity. This is especialy prevalent in italian restaurants where you get one meat ball on 400g of spag, and I make a point of avoiding such establishments.

But the meals they do are generally a bit poncey aren't they - A tiny bit of meat in the centre of a plate with some totally OTT dressing and a drizzle of.. something for no real reason, and it takes about 3hrs to prep and cook :/

you are going to the wrong places then, no?
why go somewhere that doesnt give you enough food when for less you can go eat somewhere else and have just as nice food and more of it?

I was referring to food TV shows. Although Jamie Oliver is alright I guess.

What's up op was the menu in french? did they not allow you in for wearing trainers?

Restaurants are good to make a change from eating at home.

Oh yeah and here everything is horribly over-seasoned and over salted to appease these diabetic land whale's diminished sense of taste from years of masturbatory gustation.

Grow up and get a life! :p

The food are quite salty for my liking, but the service is TOP notch.

Went there last week, and had one of the specials (risotto), it came, I took a bite, was too salty for my taste. When the waiter came to check I told him. and it was him who insisted that if i am not enjoying it, I should pick something else.

The next dish (scallops with some black string like pasta) came and it was nice. Not as salty as the risotto.

Really? Really... really and once more really?!

Seriously though im not surprised you dont have a good time when you go to restaurants by yourself blankly staring at a menu that might aswel be in french as you have no idea what good food is unless its canned, frozen or out of your mothers teet.

Im not having a personal insult here but with that sort of post you might aswell say 'why do we bother eating food I wish I could just go without because it would save me time and efforts'.

Elaborating on your ridiculous points I digress as follows:

> I don't like strangers watching me eat.

Do you spend your days living under a rock shaded from the world or what someone might think of you...do you glancingly look at other people eating..unless your eating by yourself I can see this might work as you blankly stare into your plate/table cloth waiting for the next course to arrive..who knows more information needed.

-->I don't like watching strangers eat, especially fat ones.
Everyones got to eat right? Someone has to put up with looking at you probably every day, and if they do I'm starting to feel sorry for them already.

Thats your opinion, whilst it is valid yes, some people might not enjoy going to restaurants to be waited upon, but i most certainly dont think and you dont either.. that food is over-rated, what do you eat everyday..dust ,air and the occasional drip from the tap to keep to hydrated?

>I don't like spending a lot of money on something that I'm just going to poop out.

Fair enough point taken, neither would I but sometimes its nice to spoil yourself... for example instead of going to red****.. sign up to that latest and greatest site and get it all in HD.

-->I don't like having to tip people just for doing their job

Neither do I unless they provide a good service that makes it worth dining with them, theyre striving to provide an above average service to you, if you ever venture further out than your keyboard you might find that tipping is quite widespread across this little pea you call planet earth.

-->They usually give you too much food and it gets wasted.

I would say that thats a 90/10 split between having too little opposed to getting too much, stop going to all you can eat buffets and get some fine dining down ya gullet.

-->It's usually too loud, too dark, or too crowded.

As said earlier how old are you? are you socially inept? would you rather eat your dinner in the confines of a prison cell with no windows so no distractions are present? Id love to have a night out with you regardless whether you went down the pub/bar/club or just even had a nice chillaxed night infront of the ps3 with some beers/shandys or ribena in your case, you'd be able to find fault and as a result sound like a

right barrel of fun.

I actually had quite abit of fun typing this drivel out after a few beers, even if you arnt being serious which you quite clearly arn't you certainly fit the typical trollage persona.. which if you do it worked and you got a reaction out of me...but only because im more drunk than I would usually be sober

How salty was salty...?

enough for me to didn't really want to eat it anymore, and I eat anything.

I think the fact that it had chorizo, onions and LOADED with parmesan on top was enough flavours on top of the seasoning in the stock they used to cook it. On top of that they seasoned it (i can see).

I can see why that was too salty - Chorizo on it's own is a potent flavour, but add Parmesan and extra seasoning on top? :o too much salt!

You're doing it wrong. And you sound like you're about 15. Grow up, experience some decent places, then come back.
