Hello all,
Mostly a lurker but looking for some help/input on this occasion.
Just wanted to find some other people who also have the Asus 3090 TUF OC card and get some stock scores from them in Port Royal and Time Spy & Extreme.
I've had a Zotac Trinity 3090 for the last month or so, it was a gap filler until I got the TUF OC and then it was going into my brother's machine. Today's the day, the TUF OC came and as us tinkers do.. the first thing I did was DDU the current drivers, install fresh and run some 3dmark benchmarks.
The Port Royal came in at 12.5k stock. I feel like this is on the low side, especially when I read the reviews of the same card and other people's post who suggest they're hitting 13.5k stock. GPU never made it over 52 degrees so the heat isn't an issue here. If I OC to 175/1000 I can make about 13.5k but that same oc, in the same machine on the Trinity card netted me just over 14k (14050 iirc).
I feel as if the card is fighting with itself. The power limit seems to constantly being dragged down to 90/95% and then shoots back up. It also feels like GPU boost isn't having the same impact on the Asus card that it does on the Zotac card. Feels almost as if the Asus card is ignoring the extra GPU boost you get above it's factory boost clock. For example, in PR, the Zotac card would finish on an average frequency of 19xx and the Asus card somewhere in the 1800s despite the Zotac card having a lower factory boostclock (1645 vs 1740 I believe). I also seem to be seeing a lot of 17xx clock speeds during the runs which I don't see on the Zotac card despite it running 10-17 degrees hotter than the Asus card.
I'm pretty sure the bios switch is on the performance bios. I did download the bios update tool from the Asus site but it says something along the lines of "your card not need a bios update" so I can only assume it's a newer card that already has the newer bios on it?
The rest of the machine is: 9900k, Asrock z390 Phantom Gaming ITX board, 64GB DDR3600 CL16 Ram. 2x1tb NVME drives.
