Even when they aren't playing them?

I currently have Guild wars and WoW neither of which I play but I still keep them up to date (just in case) anyone else do this too?

Not really, i did for a while but then i stopped doing it because i became uninterested.

I used to check up on my realm forum about 3 months after quitting, but its all new people from the 3 years i played it so i was surprised i only recognised 3 people.

I would never sell my account though. Too much time i invested in the game to just give it all away.

5 level 70's and 2 level 60's :S

I used to with Everquest, until they changed the patcher. Now need to log-in to patch which needs an active subscription.

Will update the SoE games before the free Living Legacy promotion ends. Then store them on an external drive, as they sure eat up the GB's of space.

its better to let the account subscription lapse.

1) Hackers won't be able to log into it. This happened to me when I stopped playing WoW for several months but just logged occasionally to keep it up to date as you describe.

2) Saves money.

3) In the case of WoW I was able to pick up an account last Christmas that lapses at the end of 2005. MMOs tend to keep old lapses accounts available for a LONG time.

Most games let you download the updates without a current sub (at least if they've any sense). Makes it much easier to come back if you don't have several gig of updates to download first.

I always felt the same way with my previous MMOs about selling acc's,
but recently when AoC came out and I left WoW after 3yrs, I felt that there is no point keeping it since I was 100% sure I am not coming back.

So I said, why not get 400 quid for something I am not going to use ;),
And even if I wanted to go back somewhere in the future I could buy similar account for just a small fraction of what I got for mine or just lvl up new char since you will need to get all the new stuff anyways on it.

-------------

Now on the main topic, not really, the games nowadays let you download the stuff off the fast FTP servers, and as I have 8Mb connection it pretty much allows me to DL even biggest patches in no time.

Yeah I keep GW upto date, even tho I havn't played it propperly in about 8 months...

I just keep it patched and log in now and again to see if I have any birthday pressies lol

(Got a nice Roaring Ether mini-pet the other day \o/)

Same with EVE, not played it in ages but my character is still training =/
