Description
With Gears of War selling well, apparently 1 copy every 3 seconds in its first 56 days, it is understood that everyone will be talking about this game. Now we have stories of new evidence supporting a PC version while MS has announced the first free X360 content for the title.

Users downloading the Guru 3D nVidia Forceware drivers have found mention of Gears of War, suggesting it is evidence of the imminent arrival of a PC version of Epic's blockbuster. The suggestion is that a Halo 2 and Gears of War Vista lineup, would help Microsoft's new OS overcome early criticism from the gaming community. Bill Gates however, did not go so far as to mention a PC version during his CES keynote speech. He did mention however, the new Gears of War content which will soon be available to XBox 360 gamers for free.

The download, available January 10, will offer two new multiplayer maps and a video introduction hosted by Epic's CliffyB. The two new maps will be:

Raven Down
Delta Force must enter the map from multiple access points and seek survivors from a Raven helicopter crash. The action takes place on the streets of a bombed city with car wrecks and destroyed buildings providing ample cover.

Old Bones

Described as a survival horror map, Old Bones takes place in a grand old museum which has been targeted by the Locust Horde in order to eradicate records of man's presence on Sera. Delta Force will need to stop the Horde from succeeding in its mission.

Would be cool if it did come out on PC.

I remember a thread a short time ago with a link to an article which quoted someone who said that Gears of War was not coming to PC after all. My recolection of this is vague, as you can see.

It wasn't Bill Gates, but someone from the development team i think.

Sorry to sprinkle yellow water on your parade. Please prove me wrong..

if it's in the nvidia driver then a pc version exists in testing. You cannot create game optimisations in a gfx driver without the game to test it on.

Eh what do you mean nVidia driver?
360 uses a ATi GPU, unless you mean they developed it on like a GF8800 which I don't think they did :S

Edit: Oh right I see what you mean now, don't know why it would be mentioned in drivers though, sounds like porkies if you ask me

I can't say I'm too interested. Gameplay wise, I think it is already lacking quite heavily. It's the same thing the entire way through. get to a new tunnel/ open area. Admore the graphics, hide behind a wall and shoot whatever is coming towards you. I'd go as far to say it's very shallow gameplay wise. There isn't anything other than the graphics that hasn't already been done to a much higher on more polished standard on the PC.

It's visible in the dirver for all to see...

quote from Mark Rein
'There is no "new information" that Gears will be released on PC. You know console games are developed on PCs, right? Even if we never release Gears of War on PC we still need to run the game on PC to develop and test content for it.

We gave NVIDIA a copy of wargame.exe (along with some sample content from Gears) so they could help us tweak Unreal Engine 3 performance and reliability on NVIDIA graphics chips. That was necessary to make the development tools perform well and ensure that their drivers would support UE3 going forward. That was beneficial because two PC games (Roboblitz and Rainbow Six Vegas) have already shipped for PC and we're planning to ship our next Unreal Tournament game on PC this year as well.

So in reality the only thing this supposed "leak" demonstrates is that we work closely with NVIDIA to ensure the best possible performance for our engine on their platforms. Ditto for ATI and other graphics vendors as well.

When asked recently in an interview whether I had "any comment on the Windows Vista version of Gears of War?" I replied the following:

There’s nothing to announce at this time. We’ve said all along that, at some point in the future, we could adapt Gears of Wars for PC. Based on past experience we’ve learned that it takes approximately 5 years for an OS to fully take hold among the gaming population. So unless it takes us 5 years to bring Gears of War to Windows, we certainly expect to keep supporting Windows XP users. For now however Gears is available exclusively on Xbox360 and we’re still working on improvements and enhancements to it.'

Was on beyond unreal

not particularly here, it may have shiney graphics but apparently it has rather repetitive gameply. another all glitz no substance title to pop on the shelf and gather dust.

now if you want graphics... wait for Crysis.
