Anyone else not bothered with next-gen yet?

Buying a next-gen games console seems silly at the moment expensive. I seem to hang back a generation and play great games for relative pennies. Does anyone else do this?

My Xbox has been an absolute steal when you factor in the countless hours I've got out of it, not just from gaming but also using as a media player for live TV, netflix, on demand, etc, even though it cost me £400 and only included one game when I bought it 6 months ago.

But my PS3 does netflix and on-demand TV already. So it's currently £400 for bonus game playing powahs.

I class Wii U as next gen. Fully serious too. As for XBone or PS4, nope. No killer apps for me yet.

Other than Bayonetta 2, not too many games appeal. I'm not buying a whole console just to play Mario.

Have you played a Wii U?
No.

Nintendo has some very high 'ethics' when it comes to gaming though, they will not release a game if it's not ready. They do not produce rubbish, or at least not overly so. Certianly not to the extend that you see on the PS/MS side. I really do beleive the Wii U is Nintendo's greatest console.

It has very select games, which are just second to none. I can't put Mario Kart 8 down and I'm barely even a gamer, plowing 40+ hours into it in the past couple of weeks.

Putting these games on other consoles is not what Nintendo is all about, plus they are still a bit butt hurt by Sony and I could never see them allowing Sony increased revenue with Mario.

I will buy a PS4 in the future though, but at the moment it provides nothing for me.
The only Nintendo games that I would plough hours into is Zelda, Mario and Metroid. Two of those aren't out yet. I don't tend to play local multiplayer so there is very limited appeal in Smash Brothers or Mario Kart. So in short, I'm the least interested in the Wii U.

Zelda and Mario are out on the Wii U. I am also unsurprised that you haven't played one.

Mario is. By all means, point out the new Zelda game! I'm not interested in paying to play something I already own. Similarly, Hyrule Warriors isn't a true Zelda game, is it?

Edit: we also know that the true Mario on Wii U is Super Mario 3D World.

I'm responding to what you said specifcally. The Wind Waker HD is a Zelda game that is out on the Wii U. I'm not sure what you mean about the "true" Mario on the Wii U.

It should have been pretty obvious that I was referring to a new Zelda game, all things considered (e.g. I referred to key Nintendo franchises and the other most popular games on the Wii U, as well as inferring some knowledge of Nintendo's history with my comment about giving up hardware). The posts from others above are testament to this :p

As for the 'true Mario' comment, I have no interest in New Super Mario Brothers U, which by comparison seems to be a relatively rushed 'get a Mario game out there' affair rather than top-shelf Nintendo.
