Anyone else NOT voting today?

Anyway, I've been convinced to go and spoil my ballot card tonight so congratulations all you people on your soapbox!
Assuming you're serious, good on you. Spoiling your ballot shows you care enough to actually get involved, if sufficient people do it politicians will realise there are people out there who do vote but don't support the current parties. Lower hanging fruit and all that, easier to try and engage with you than the truly apathetic. That is a very good thing.

Would love to vote, not registered so I'm hardly going to try and sneak into the polling station and fill out a ballot whilst I hope nobody is looking.

Spoil your ballot then, register your displeasure.

Not even turning up at all is nothing short of lazy, you can make all the excuses you want to try and make yourself feel better but that's what it boils down to.

I walked past my local polling station this morning. No queue at all either. I walked past. :)

Does that still make me lazy?

I know quite a few people who have applied for postal or proxy votes for their 'home' constituency - that is, where they grew up in and went to high school instead of where they currently live now; whilst at uni.
Why on Earth do people do this? Surely you would want to vote for YOUR representative to represent where you live.
I think the entire practice should be banned.

I'll be popping down to my local polling station in a few hours and ticking a big tick next to the Conservatives.

I expect my friends will be happy to stop hearing me bleating on about this election, but it's very important!

Why do people keep saying this, intentionally spoiling your ballot is valid and has the same effect.

If you are going to force people to vote then you MUST give them the option of voting for nobody.
You can't write in the official rules:

If you don't wish to vote for anyone scribble on the page, sign it.

That is why it would be important to have a specific "I vote for nobody" box.

If you're going to not vote you may aswell go in and write none of the above or something rather than just not turn up.

at least then you add weight to the campaign to get none of the above added rather than just add to the "British voters too lazy to vote" storey.

One man's opinion.
One mans? Are you sure? Ask the millions of people in our society who do care enough to get involved.

If compulsory voting was introduced, then yes a "none of the above" option would likely be introduced also.

Mind you, the Australians use a scoring system (for the House of Representatives), where the candidates are scored from 1-x. If you don't want any, you mark it incorrectly and it is considered an "informal vote" which isn't counted. Informal votes are then noted in the final results.

It's slightly different for the Senate but Informal votes are still set aside and counted.

But is it just laziness? I'm fairly content with the way the country is run most of the time. I don't see there being any massive changes to my life whoever wins the election. And even if I did vote and the party I voted for won, I'm sure there would still be things that I'd want to complain about, they would still do things that I'd disapprove of.

I've never voted, and not going to this time, due to pure apathy. My vote makes no difference. I'd go and spoil my ballot, but it seems like an empty gesture, no-one cares =/

I'm interested to see who wins, but I don't have a preference.
I guess it's like watching a football match, when you don't follow either team ?
