I dont think I can as I'm not on the electoral register?
For those not going to vote 'nothing worth voting for' etc...
At least go along to your polling station and 'spoil' your ballot paper.
This way, they know people are physically going to vote, but there's nothing worth voting for.
As much as I usually agree with GC, he's wrong on this one, because you're only guilty of voting them in if you voted for that person, not if you voted for someone else. You're more guilty if you didn't vote at all because you could have added a vote to preventing them getting in.
There should be internet voting me thinks, more people would probably vote I know I'd probably vote more often.
Is it really such a big effort?![]()
People fought and died to give you the right to take part in a democracy and you can't be bothered?
It should be the law to vote.
Between the big parties I'd say you're right, however the smaller "protest vote" one policy parties will usually get a higher percentage of their supporters out voting imo. So the BNP/Green party/Pirate Party will actually get a much higher percentage of the vote than they actually have support.snip
anyone's thoughts on that?
For those who arent voting because they dont agree with any of the parties, you should still go and spoil the paper. Draw a big rude picture on the paper if you must.
These votes do get counted as a separate category. If enough people spoilt their votes rather than just appearing apathetic and not bothering to get of their ass to vote, then someone may take notice.
If you do nothing, then you will never be counted!

As PlumpMonkey said earlier, you can spoil your ballot intentionally if you want, and spoilt ballots are counted.
I would like to see a similar situation to Australia, compulsory voting, but a the fine for not is only small AU$ 20. They get up to 95% voter turnout there.
Why do people keep saying this, intentionally spoiling your ballot is valid and has the same effect.
This. At least make some effort. This happens once every 4-5 years, so don't be so lazy. If you have a problem with all politicians, go and spoil the paper, draw pictures, scribbl all over it, or whatever.
If you just sit at home and ignore it, then nobody cares. At least spoiling the paper will send a sign that you care about who runs the country.
I think a low turnout sends a stronger message that people are so sick of politicians and their opportunistic muggy smiles and empty words, that even spoiling my ballot would indicate an action to this whole process.
You, and everyone that follows your line of reasoning, don't deserve the freedom afforded you by democracy.I can't decide who the lesser evil is so I'm not going to vote.
All the parties have something to hide, and I hate the school ground politics that goes on, one party ripping the other to shreds, it's just all carp.
Whoever gets in, the country is still going to be up the spout so what's it matter![]()
?!? There is, you spoil your ballot paper. What hope have we got if people don't even know this simple piece of information.I personally feel everyone should at least turn out, there should be an option to abstain from voting though.
A democracy of choice is a hypothetical dream, and wouldn't work even if it existed. Compulsory voting is a neccesity in a democracy. Abstention does not mean not voting.I did vote, but this argument is rubbish. People fought and died to take part in a democracy of choice, and if that choice is not to vote, for whatever reason, that is a choice.
Which is exactly what abstention is for.If there was a party worth voting for, I would.
If that is the way you feel, abstain.I don't entirely agree with any of the main parties policies. I think all the main party politicians are a bunch of money greedy children. I am therefore exercising my democratic right of not voting. (Unless Jeremy Clarkson and Jeremy Kyle start a new party, I'd vote for that partnership!)
Rubbish, low turnout just shows that half the country are lazy.
Your profile says you're 25. How could you not have known about postal voting? No I'm not as I don't think I can, I live 70 miles away from my registered constituency so I don't think I can.
...unless someone wants to tell me otherwise?

No, that's what you think and formed your opinion on, the reality is that people feel ill and sick of this process whilst nobody's lives are getting any easier. Some of us are old enough to have lived through a few election campaigns, listen to speeches full of soaring rhetoric written FOR them, and then only to live through 5 years of disappointment. I could've just as easily gone and voted BNP today as protest, but that is not democracy in my opinion and not something I would be party of. No, instead of giving a thought or acknowledgement to this process, I'd rather stay away. Not through laziness, through choice.
