Anyone else not wear a watch?

I just bought a new digital watch just for retro appeal... and I'm finding it very weird wearing the thing. I didn't realise since mobile phones came in just how I didn't need to wear a watch anymore. Not only that, but I don't like having the time on me the whole day. I end up looking at the thing constantly which makes the day go slower.

Seems that these days watches are 30% necessity, 70% fashion accessories. So, anyone else not wear a watch? I don't think I've worn one for about ten years.

I have them but very rarely wear one. I'm in and out of the gym and not great when typing at your desk so they are just too impractical.. that and I'm too lazy to put them on. I guess it's just habit that i don't.

I don't, but I've never liked the feel of watches/jewellery etc. Even unpick labels on t-shirts.

And I would say more like 98% fashion accesory these days.

Used to rock one of them casio rubber watches from Argos every now and again back when I was in school.

Haven't worn one since.

Probally wear one for formal occasions but general day to day I dont.

In the office, I have a clock on my desk phone, bottom corner of my monitor, my phone, clock on the wall so really no point in it

You're far from alone, as previous threads on the subject have shown; the modern generation of phone addicts doesn't really need a watch. But for those of us who rarely take our phones out of our pockets, a watch is still very useful.

I'd never pay more than a tenner for one though. I want to tell the time, not the world how cool I am.

Of course my opinion probably doesn't count, what with being old enough to remember the excitement of finding one of these in my Xmas pillow case. :-)

Stopped wearing one as soon as mobiles took off, I also stopped using my MP3 player/walkman as soon as phones doubled up as one.

No point carrying a single function device.

For those who say having a phone negates the need for a watch, it can be irritating in a social or a professional situation when someone takes their phone out of their pocket and looks at it. I find it much more inconspicuous to glance at a wristwatch.

But then again, checking the time is a good excuse for some folk to wrap themselves in the comfort blanket of their smart phone.

My last watch got thrown out of my car window nearly 20 years ago during an argument with a g/f. Never warn one since. No practical need for watches now a days thanks to mobiles.

I posted this in the watch thread in the past so here it is again. I had a Timex Expedition when I was a young teen and then lost it /somewhere/. Shortly after Mobiles started becoming the norm and from then on I didn’t care to wear one ever again until recently when I bought 2 in one month then chopped and changed for better ones.

I think James May explains it well:

Used to wear one all the time, then it broke, never got around to replacing it, that was about 5 years ago...

I used to wear one around 5 years ago. It just died one day, had no power even after changing the battery and I never bothered getting another. Just use my phone now.

I agree with your points totally. I have to admit that when all my stuff is in my pockets on top of my phone and I have earphones in, having a watch to tell the time is far more convenient than taking the phone out.

Also some people take their phone out to look at the time, then - in company - spend ages also checking Facebook and email. I hate it. So a watch does negate that issue very nicely.
