hope your happy, im on 4mb VM, and i download all files at no more than 20kb/s, 15kb/s is the average :(, and because of this and all the problems i get with it, i ******* hate them so much i would cut the owners head off a crap on his bloody neck.

i'm loving it too, 2.2MB/s from ftp.multiplay.co.uk and my favorite linux mirror sites
nice 13-15ms pings on UK gaming servers too :)
nice upload too :)

Getting similar speeds now that I've got my new modem (VM 255) though my router doesn't do anything over 12 Mb so waiting to see what wireless VM bring us next month.

Nah swapped to bt miles better because they have free giganews with 200 day retention virgin isn't full giganews and has 3 day retention.
Overall i think bt is the better deal got to love free giganews.

I cant be the only person to think, wtf? "virgin isn't full giganews" ?

I think you have got a bit mixed up here C64

I think he means that the ISP newsgroups Virgin supply are poo, whereas the Newsgroups BT supply are basically rebadged Giganews servers.

Have requested a new modem, got one of the old Scientific Atlanta DPX100 modems (from 2001 or so! started with 512kbit lol) but it seems to be doing the trick! I've got a Motorola Surfboard but can't use it for obvious reasons.

no not at all i used to have virgin it just has some selected newsgroups
a lot of the servers aren't covered amount of times i double clicked an nbz
and for it to say article does not exist and also the completion rate is absolute pants.I really only see the point of having any more than 2mb if you
get good news servers not like anything much over 2mb makes a difference in online gaming also bt upload is faster i average about 50kb sec on virgin i got around 38.
yes bt is basically news.giganews.com
I know it's mental yes and i cant quite believe what im saying either
but basically if you like downloading a lot get bt unlimted the server is speed capped at around 1.4 mbps but at least you can get what you want when you want and it's complete and there for a long time.

virgin is not giganews try downloading something over 3 days old

I think you are misreading into what I am saying, the likes of me and Headrat subscribe to Giganews and get full speeds of the Giganews european server, which is great, I wasnt refering to Virgins newsgroups.

Until the so called upgrade I was getting a solid 10Mbps connection, unfortunately since the upgrade my connection drops several times a day and on newsgroups (giganews) I cannot get over 6.5Mb no matter what time of the day.

It has got to the point that after 5+ years of excellent service I am thinking of cancelling with Virgin as I have had more downtime since the upgrade than I have in the WHOLE of my time with them before.

I will not call their tech support line at 25p a minute as I know it is not a problem with my configuration but I will probably email them and if no result then I will call and threaten to cancel.

At the moment VERY disappointed with VM

He's right you know, nothing like 200 days of USENET goodness :)

My connection is currently MAXX'd again with 10 connection to GIGANEWS, love it ;)
